The Adams Fire Department is located in the State of New York, County of Jefferson, and Village of Adams. The Adams fire department was organized on April 16th, 1929, as a volunteer fire department, for the purpose of providing fire protection. The Adams Fire Department is organized to: save lives, suppress and control fires, provide fire prevention education, hazardous materials response, public assistance during natural emergencies and other activities as deemed in the best interest of the fire department or citizens of our community. Membership of the fire department is comprised of active. Active membership is divided into interior and exterior Firefighters. The total number active membership shall not exceed 70 active members. It is the commitment of this department to provide to the best of our ability, a safe operation, prevent accidents, illness, fatalities, and comply with all applicable laws and regulations. You will also be responding to medical calls to provide Basic First Aid and provide assistance to EMTs. As an EMT you will be trained to respond to medical emergencies and provide care for patients. You will also be asked to run rehab (check firefighter health) at fire scenes. Deliver meals to seniors, enabling them to live safely and independently. Volunteers are responsible for ensuring timely and safe delivery of meals to designated addresses.

Provide support at the Care Center, assisting local non-profit agencies in delivering aid to those in need. Volunteers help with administrative tasks and client interaction.

Assist in the daily operations of the food pantry, including sorting and distributing food to residents in need. Volunteers help ensure that families receive the necessary food supplies.

Help prepare and distribute lunch for an average daily participation of 200 children throughout Jefferson County. Meals are prepared at Community Action Planning Council.

Assist in providing home weatherization services to households meeting financial eligibility. Tasks may include insulation, furnace repair or replacement, window and door replacement, and other measures to assist homeowners and renters.

Assist in distributing five-day emergency food packages to those in need according to family size. Volunteers may also refer families to other food resources such as WIC, Food Stamps, and budgeting classes.

Volunteer tax counselors trained in preparing taxes provide free assistance in filing Federal and State income tax forms. Services are available at selected sites throughout tax season and through the Community Action offices in Watertown and Carthage.
