Interns work on-site in various Unity House programs, gaining experience in human services. The program requires an application, orientation, background check, and training.

Advocates help raise awareness of issues faced by the community, assist in problem-solving, and work to influence policy. Volunteers can engage independently or with guidance from the Board Advocacy Committee.

Volunteers assist with various tasks such as holiday help, special events, and seasonal clean-up days. Opportunities exist for both individuals and groups, and volunteers can choose to commit to a weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly role.

From January to mid-April, volunteers can assist with our Tax Assistant Program. We are always looking for Tax Preparers and Greeters to help community members with their tax filings.

Assist with the preparation and distribution of Thanksgiving food packages in November.

Help prepare and distribute food packages during the holiday break week in December.

Volunteers will assist in stocking shelves, organizing donations, interfacing with customers, and bagging groceries. This role is crucial in ensuring that our food pantry runs smoothly and efficiently.

In May, volunteers can help with Community Action Month projects, including food distributions and other community support activities.

Volunteers assist in the Outreach Van which tours Albany for 8 hours each day, handing out food, water, and blankets to people staying outside. Volunteers can help staff during one of the two daily shifts: 2-6pm or 6-10pm.

Hospitality Volunteers spend time with guests and help with chores that keep the shelter running. Tasks include kitchen work, housekeeping, laundry, office tasks, gardening, maintenance, front desk duties, and more. Volunteers also engage with guests by reading stories, playing games, or simply listening to them.

Volunteers prepare lunch and dinner for approximately 40 people on Saturdays and Sundays. Tasks include providing, cooking, serving, and clearing away meals.

Support the after-school program by assisting with activities, homework help, and supervision. Volunteers play a crucial role in providing a safe and engaging environment for children.

Assist with the daily operations of the food pantry, including sorting and distributing food to community members. Volunteers help ensure that families have access to essential food items.

At our distribution centers, you will sort various donations and get them ready to go to our neighbors in your community. Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes and dress comfortably for the weather.

Assist with environmental projects at Little's Lake, including the removal of invasive species like Water Chestnuts and Garlic Mustard. Help maintain the park's natural beauty while gaining valuable experience in environmental conservation.

Help with various maintenance projects around Little's Lake. Tasks may include trail maintenance, litter removal, and general upkeep of park facilities. Enjoy the outdoors while contributing to the community.
