Saint John Fire Dept

11033 W 93rd Ave, Saint John, IN (15.5mi)

Skills:

Skilled Craft or Trade, Healthcare/Medical, Interpersonal

Causes:

Disaster Relief, Poverty, Veterans & Military Families

The Saint John Fire Department is seeking motivated individuals to join our ranks as a Volunteer Firefighter/EMT. No prior experience is required; all training will be provided. It does not matter if you're a recent high-school graduate looking to start your career in the fire service, or a seasoned workforce professional looking to give back to our community; there's a place for you at the SJFD.
APPLY NOW!
Fire Academy Training Both veteran EMS/fire personnel and individuals new to the fire service are encouraged to consider giving back to the community of Saint John. For those without prior experience, your career in the fire service will start as a Probationary Firefighter while you attend the IFTS District One Fire Academy. The academy meets on Thursday nights and Saturdays for six months, and is conveniently located in Saint John. Upon completion of the academy - and the acquisition of requisite state certifications - you will be inducted as a full member, and active Firefighter, of the Saint John Fire Department. After obtaining the rank of Firefighter, members will continue their education in both EMS and advanced fire disciplines over time.
EMS Training After successful completion of Fire Academy, candidates not already in possession of an EMS certification will have one year to enroll in a local, state-accredited EMS program to earn their Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification. Both accelerated (weekday) and evening classes are available through various EMS providers in the NWI Region. All tuition will be covered by the SJFD's nonprofit foundation, so long as the candidate is an active participant in the department. For convenience of location and times, most candidates chose to enroll in the EMS Academy offered through Franciscan Health Crown Point.
Free College Tuition The educational opportunities don't stop with the Fire Academy, however. The Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association has partnered with both Ivy Tech Community College and Purdue Global to offer scholarships and reduced tuition for active volunteer firefighters. Simply put, becoming a volunteer member of the St. John Fire Department will allow you the opportunity to earn a college degree at little to no cost.

About the SJFD The Saint John Fire Department is a well-trained, highly motivated team of public servants. Each member represents the "best there is" regarding aggressive, disciplined, competent personnel. The members have, for many years, been recognized throughout the community for their energy and commitment to those in need. The members have built and shared a tradition of quality and excellence with every citizen in Saint John and the surrounding area. The Saint John Fire Department also enjoys a solid working relationship with the neighboring fire departments that offer and receive mutual aid when needed.
The Saint John Fire Department stays ready and prepared to answer the call of public safety every minute of every day. There is no greater challenge to face. The rewards can be found with the successful results of that challenge.
Applications for membership can be found here, or by contacting the department via the links on this page. | Requirements: •Applicants must reside within the fire protection area of the Saint John Fire Department
•Applicants must be at least 18 years old
•Applicants must successfully pass a medical, vision, hearing, and psychological evaluation before hire
•Applicants must successfully pass the SJFD's physical ability test before hire | Categories: Firefighter, EMT
