As a youth mentor, you will meet with students in Jackson County schools for 30 minutes weekly, providing guidance and encouragement. Mentors must attend a 1-hour training session and undergo a background check.

This is a youth development program run by West Jackson Fire Department. It is designed to teach young people about firefighting and other emergency services while building important life skills. It is also used to help future firefighter recruitment. You may learn to quickly don (put on) your protective gear and clothing (called turnouts or bunker gear), pull and deploy hose-lines for simulated firefighting, raise, extend and climb ladders, tie firefighter specific knots, use a fire extinguisher, roll and load hose, rope rescue techniques, basic first aid skills, and fire safety and prevention skills. This can also give the participants an idea of what being a professional firefighter is really like and whether or not it is a career they would like to pursue. | Requirements: • Any resident of Braselton, Hoschton, (or within a 5 mile radius), between the ages of 16-17, may apply for membership with the West Jackson Junior Firefighter program. • The applicant must complete an application, including a copy of their school physical. Included with the application is a parental consent that must be signed by a parent or legal guardian. The application must be approved by the West Jackson Fire Chief, and advisors of the program. • The applicant must be enrolled in public, private, or home school in good standing who meet the attendance regulations as set forth by federal, state, or local authorities; a student must maintain a course grade average or the equivalent of the letter “C” in all courses of study; and • The junior firefighter shall provide a copy of their academic progress report information to the lead advisor of the program every time one is received. | Categories: Junior Members

Join us on Saturday mornings to help build fences for dogs who are chained or tethered. No special skills are required, just a desire to help dogs and the ability to work outdoors. Volunteers should wear clothes and shoes they don't mind getting dirty and bring a pair of gloves.

Volunteers assist during PetSmart adoption events on Saturdays. Responsibilities include helping with the setup and breakdown of event materials, interacting with potential adopters, and caring for the animals present at the event.

Foster volunteers provide temporary homes for dogs or cats until permanent homes are found. Responsibilities include feeding, caring, and providing a safe environment for the animals.

Volunteers help with refurbishing donated computers, assisting with computer problems, conducting community outreach, and managing organizational tasks. No prior experience is required, and volunteers will attend a mandatory orientation session.

Join UOWN for the Spring Quarterly Monitoring event to collect water samples around Athens. Volunteers will assist in collecting and analyzing water samples to monitor the health of the watershed.

Life Skills Instructors teach essential skills such as budgeting, saving money, and managing physical and mental health to young adults in the program.

Volunteers help with routine maintenance and yard work on the Northern Star campus, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for participants.

Transportation Volunteers assist with transporting participants to various appointments and activities as part of their transition to independent living.

Tutors assist participants in the Independent Living Program with educational pursuits, helping them to further their education and establish a career path.

Mentors provide guidance and support to young adults transitioning from foster care to independent living. Responsibilities include helping with education, career interests, budgeting, and life skills development.

Join one of our year-round teams such as Events, Program, Promotions, Grants & Fundraising, or Outreach to help plan and execute various activities and initiatives throughout the year.

Assist with one-time events such as fundraisers or running the merch table. Volunteers may also share their expertise by leading workshops.

Local college students can apply for internships to gain experience in nonprofit operations, event planning, and community outreach.

Support the Water Trails Committee in building canoe/kayak launches along the river. Volunteers will help with fundraising, leading paddling trips, and collecting information for the website.

Assist the Advocacy Committee by monitoring local commissions and providing feedback on proposed ordinances affecting the watershed. Volunteers will help formulate statements and communicate with government officials.

Volunteers are needed to assist with the We Rock Athens Camp, providing instrument instruction, guidance to campers, and support to camp staff during the camp week. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to propose and teach workshops.
