Benton County Fire District #4
BCFD4 is currently seeking applicants to fill volunteer firefighter, EMT, resident/intern and support personnel openings. Go to https://bcfd4.org/join-us/ to apply. Applications are accepted year-round but may be held if no positions are available. Applicants will be contacted to be informed of application status. Currently qualified EMTs or firefighters are given priority. Applicants that have no training or experience or those that not been certified for long periods of time are sent to our volunteer firefighter training academy. Benton County Fire Protection District #4 is a special service district that provides fire protection to the City of West Richland and surrounding county areas. The fire district was established in 1954 and encompasses 52 square miles. Our calls for service include structure fires, wildland fires, citizen assists, emergency medical calls, vehicle accidents, water rescues, and hazardous materials incidents. We are comprised of a combination staff including 19 career staff and more than 35 volunteers, with up to 12 of the volunteers being intern volunteer firefighters. We operate out of three stations with two of them staffed 24-hours per day that house 13 fire apparatus, three medic units (one as a reserve unit), and 4-6 command/staff vehicles. We have several members that are on specialized Tri-County Teams such as the Tri-County Hazardous Materials Response Team, Technical Rescue Team, and the Tri-County Incident Management Team (Type III). The district handled more than 2000 calls in 2021, including mutual and automatic aid with neighboring departments. The career and intern staff work a 48/96 hour shift schedule. Our volunteer firefighters, EMT's, and support personnel respond and complete station standby time when they are available and as needed. | Requirements: Requirements for support personnel may differ than listed below. Be at least 18 years of age at appointment and eligible to work in the United States. Possess a High School Diploma or GED. Have and maintain an insurable driving record. Have a clear criminal history for crimes against people, drugs, firearms, etc. Successfully pass a background check. Have and maintain physical fitness for duty and be capable of performing any required firefighting, rescue, or emergency medical activities as assigned. Live within a reasonable response time to district boundaries or stations. If you have previous firefighting or EMS experience, your application may be accepted outside the application period on a case by case basis. If an opening becomes available, you may be invited to participate in the testing and interview process.
