Our Monthly Business Meetings are typically held on the second Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m., Also, our monthly training sessions are typically held the 4th Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Additional meetings and trainings do occur throughout each month at the request of the Training Officer and with the approval of the Fire Chief. If interested, you will need to obtain and complete a formal application. This will be sent to you upon request. Anyone interested in applying is always welcome and highly encouraged to attend a meeting prior to submitting an application to get a brief introduction to the members and department. Seeking members to fill some vacant positions, we are looking for members that live in the Arpin, WI area. Our bylaws do not require residency with the exception of the Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Chief. However, members should live in reasonable response of the fire station. Typically ten -twelve miles as "a bird flies" of the village of Arpin is goal that has been used in the past. 1. What is the approximate population of the area that you serve? The Arpin Volunteer Fire Department primary response area is the village and township of Arpin. This is approximately 1998 residents that reside within those borders. In addition, our department is part of the MABAS system for automatic mutual aid for neighboring townships. The department is on first box alarm for ten townships and 2nd alarm for six additional townships in Wood, Marathon and Portage Counties 2. What is the approximate size of the area that you service? Township and Village of Arpin equal 36 square miles. 1st alarm MABAS additional 120 square miles, 2nd alarm MABAS additional 180 square miles and 3rd and 4th alarms areas up to another 80 square miles. As you can see our small volunteer department provides resources to large area. Some years number of fire calls can be as high as 60 calls and this does not include EMS. 3. Is your department volunteer or full time? Volunteer 4. What is the size of your department? Our department currently has (1) 2006 Rothbauer 6 man cab 1250 GPM fire engine with 1000 gallon water tank engine (2) 2009 International 2400 Gallon tankers one of these is equipped with Darley 750 GPM pump, (1) 1993 Ford Pierce 1250 GPM Fire Engine with 1000 gallon tank, (1) 2005 Chevy 6500 Rescue truck, (1) Portable Air cascade/Equipment Trailer, (1) 2008 F - 550 Ford Crew Cab Brush truck with 250 GPM pump and 200 gallon tank (1) 2005 Polaris Ranger with Trailer set up for wild land firefighting. Current fire Station is 40’ x 80’ building with 40’ x 40' addition, under this addition there is a 56,000 gallon cistern that is used as a water source for calls in the village. In addition, there is a general meeting room, storage /laundry room, office, restroom and kitchenette. a. Number of Firefighters:26 b. Number of EMT’s : 5 c. Number of First Responders: 8 5. Please describe how the following services are provided by your department: a. Fire/Ambulance/First Responders: Our department is responsible for all fire and first responder calls in the village and township of Arpin. The Ambulance provider for our area is Pittsville Fire and EMS Company. In addition, our department is on automatic 1st alarm through the MABAS system for many of the surrounding townships for fire calls. b. Inspections: Our department conducts fire safety and prevention inspections of all businesses at least twice a year. We have four members that have attended the state mandated training. If any issues are discovered during any inspection, if the issue cannot be resolved right away then a follow-up inspection is scheduled within two weeks to ensure that all issues have been corrected to ensure public safety. c. School/ Community Education: Our department provides public safety education at the local grade schools in the local area. In addition, have annual open house at the fire station each spring in conjunction with Easter egg hunt as part of joint effort with Arpin Advancement Association.. The department is proactive in the fire prevention education, was recently awarded the “Fired up for Fire Safety” award by the Marshfield area chamber of commerce in 2015 for the outstanding fire prevention program efforts put on during fire prevention week in 2015. The department also provides training demonstrations at local high school annually these range from farm accidents, auto accidents to help make teens aware of the dangers that they face when working around this equipment or driving. The fire department provides medical and fire support for the annual Arpin Truck and Tractor pull held in August by the Arpin Advancement. They also provide medical support for the Arpin Lions annual Softball Tourneys held in Spring and Fall. The department hosts open house in conjunction with the annual Christmas holiday Parade. And has annual fund raisers such as Fall Sportsman Banquet and Brat Fry to help raise funds for items that normal operation budget is not able to cover annually. Fire Department is very proactive in Farm Rescue programs and provided training along with several other departments at 2018 Wood County Farm Technology Days. Along with other events coordinated by Pittsville Fire Company and Marshfield Clinic | Requirements: All applicants must pass the criminal background check for State of WI. Valid Drivers License Must be 18 years of Age State of WI Entry Level Firefighter training, Healthcare Provider CPR will be offered to all new recruits. In addition anyone that is looking to be involved in EMS will have opportunity to complete EMR or EMT - Basic through the fire department. The department offers paid tuition for required courses and may offer funding for optional courses with prior approval by fire chief. Fire Department offers that has state matching funds for "Length of Service award" for all members that qualify Members receive small amount of wages considered reimbursement for response to incidents, and attending monthly training. Monthly Business meetings are typically held second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. with the exception of Federal Holidays when it would be held week prior or after. Monthly Fire and EMS training Sessions are held throughout the year. There is several opportunities to attend other training, work sessions. The process to apply has changed as of spring 2018, all those interested in membership must contact the Fire Chief or Deputy Fire Chief to obtain a formal approved application.
