Participate in trail building and maintenance events every 3rd Saturday of each month. No experience or tools are needed as training and tools are provided.

Play a key role in reaching caregivers and reducing cat overpopulation in high-need areas by helping connect with local residents to provide spay/neuter resources and support for the cats in their care. This involves going door-to-door in pre-selected neighborhoods to identify residents in need of services and provide education about cat care.

Manage a 1-3 mile section of trail by walking it quarterly to prune brush, clear obstacles, remove debris, and report trail conditions. Training and evaluation forms are provided.

Help manage the HHC booth at outreach events such as the Hoosier Outdoor Experience. Engage with the public and promote the organization's mission.

Assist with safely transporting cats to and from spay/neuter appointments by picking up cats from caregivers, delivering them to the transport location, and returning them to their caregivers after the procedure. Requires a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.

Volunteers are crucial in distributing posters and postcards to libraries, coffee shops, retirement villages, senior centers, high school music departments, local music schools, and stores in Brown County and surrounding communities. This role helps spread the joy of music and engage the community with the festival.

Volunteers are needed to assist as ushers during performances and help with intermission receptions. This role involves ensuring a smooth experience for attendees and supporting event logistics.

An associate member is a non-voting member of the fire department that helps with fundraising and administrative tasks. Provide focused expertise to immigrants and volunteers assisting immigrants. Be a resource of information about housing, Indiana FSSA, insurance, job searching, English as a New Language (ENL), counseling, the school system, and driver’s education.

Write and submit letters to the editor of local newspapers expressing views on education legislation. ICPE assists with the submission process.

Offer specific assistance such as providing rides in a schedule of needed rides, donating needed items, or helping with clothing drives. Volunteers can specify their preferences in the Volunteer Interest Form.

Join RSN as an individual or group to share experiences and resources. Your input amplifies our hands-on advocacy and helps transform the community.

Help build out content for the ICPE website by writing and researching stories and projects that keep the community informed about public education issues.

Assist in setting up and welcoming attendees at ICPE events. Responsibilities include bringing bottled water for speakers and managing the sign-in sheet. This is a low commitment opportunity.

Join the SPEAK group to write letters to local and state newspapers and legislators in support of public education. This involves advocating against bills that reduce funding or services to public schools.

Befriend an immigrant family to help orient them to the community. Responsibilities may include providing transportation to important appointments, helping them move to a better apartment, meeting for English language conversation, and assisting them in navigating medical, banking, and educational systems.

Speak at the statehouse on education legislation. ICPE provides guidance for those passionate about education policy to effectively communicate their views.

Attend public school board meetings at RBBCSC and MCCSC, as well as charter schools SOCS and TPS, to help ICPE stay informed and engaged with local education issues. Meeting times are listed in the monthly Five Things newsletters.

Whiteland Fire Department located in Central Indiana is always accepting applications. While prior training is prefered it is not needed as we will train new members that are brought on. We offer full uniforms and PPE and working with state of the art equipment. We serve a growing population of around 6,000. We protect several large schools as well as respond to US 31 and I 65 for various incidents. The department just underwent major changes to come under the control of the Town of Whiteland. This will lead to further opportunities to serve in the coming months and years. The New Whiteland Fire Department is a small urban department in Central Indiana, Northern Johnson County, that serves an area of approximately 1.7 square miles with a population of roughly 5,700 residents. Our department averages 500 runs per year, most being calls for EMS services. We also respond to structure fires, alarms, vehicle accidents, hazardous materials incidents, and water rescue incidents, just to name a few. We operate out of a single station with 2 engine companies, one squad/light rescue, and 2 support vehicles. We staff 2 personnel who are paid part time Monday-Friday from 1100-1900, and Saturday-Sunday from 0800-1600 to help in supplementing coverage. Our volunteer home response personnel cover all other times. We also have an overnight program. Members who do not reside in the immediate area are required to work a preset number of overnight shifts where they stay at the firehouse. This program allows us to open up the residency restrictions and allows members to be on the department that might not live in the general area. All of our personnel are certified to the State of Indiana Firefighter 1/2, EMT-Basic, Hazardous Materials Awareness/Operations, and Technical Rescue Awareness levels. Many of our personnel also hold specialty certifications in areas such as Fire Instruction, Fire Investigations, Vehicle/Machinery Rescue, Water Rescue, Fire Inspections, and Urban Search & Rescue.
