The Rutherfordton Fire and Rescue Department is a combination department comprised of twelve full-time, five part-time, 13 volunteers, and 10 junior firefighters. The department is a municipal fire department responsible for providing service to the Town of Rutherfordton, Town of Ruth, and the Rutherfordton Fire District. The total response area for the Rutherfordton Fire and Rescue Department is thirty-seven square miles. Our insurance classification is a 4/9e and we provide fire, rescue, hazardous materials, and medical responder service to the citizens in our jurisdiction as well as mutual aid to other fire and emergency service organizations. Besides emergency response, the department places emphasis on fire prevention by conducting fire safety presentations for church, civic, school groups, and by bringing the children's fire safety house to the public schools in October of each year. In addition, the fire department is responsible for conducting fire inspections in local businesses and industry for the Town of Rutherfordton and Town of Ruth. The current apparatus operated by the department is two engines, an engine/tanker combination, 78 ft. quint, one brush truck, one UTV, and a utility truck. The Main Fire Station is located at 144 N. Mitchell Street and is an eight-bay 9500 square feet facility which was built in 1996. Spindale Fire Department was founded in 1923 and has always valued volunteer firefighters which currently make up a large percentage of our department. | Requirements: Interested individuals must be at least eighteen years of age, have a valid North Carolina driver’s license, reliable transportation, able to pass a drug test, and have a clear criminal background. Individuals must also be able to pass an annual physical which is required to ensure that the individual is able to safely perform duties. The interview is in place as a way for us to get to know you and also to answer any questions you may have and make you aware of fire department benefits and expectations. The final step is a physical ability test. Cherokee Creek Vol Fire Dept
The Volunteer Firefighter/Emergency Medical Responder (Volunteer FF/EMR) serves the community by responding to a wide variety of situations, ranging from emergencies that immediately threaten life or property to routine citizen requests for information or assistance. They perform within the scope of the policies and procedures of the Cherokee Creek Fire Department and they perform duties in the following general categories: fire suppression, emergency medical aid or rescue, hazardous material responses, training, building inspections and public education. The Volunteer FF/EMR normally works under the supervision of a company officer and is expected to function effectively as part of a highly trained team. They are also expected to perform their duties under adverse conditions and physical conditions that may pose a high risk of personal injury or exposure to hazardous conditions or infectious diseases. The Volunteer Firefighter/EMR drives or rides an emergency vehicle in response to fire, rescue and emergency medical events, hazardous materials response/mitigation and routine requests for help or assistance. In the performance of their duties, the Volunteer Firefighter/EMR places equipment, lays and connects hose; operates high-capacity pumps and directs water streams; raises and climbs ladders; uses chemical extinguishers, safety belts, lines and hooks and uses self-contained breathing apparatus. The Volunteer Firefighter/EMR may enter burning buildings as part of a fire suppression team, perform ventilation tasks above ground, carry heavy objects and equipment and rescue injured or trapped victims. The Volunteer Firefighter/EMR also responds to requests for pre-hospital emergency medical care and , setting up and/or operating oxygen and auto-defibrillation equipment, administering pre-hospital emergency medical care to the sick and injured and performing other related work as assigned | Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age.( Junior Firefighter program is available for those 16 & 17 years of age) Must submit to a Statewide and National Background Check (at not cost to the applicant) Must have a valid Drivers License and submit a 10 Year Certified Driving Record Must be able to work as part of a team. Must be willing to obtain certain training and/or certifications (at no cost to the applicant) in an agreed upon amount of time. Weekly training sessions are conducted On Tuesdays at 7pm.
