The one-year Fire Cadet program is an unpaid, volunteer work experience that offers hands-on training, and introductory knowledge of firefighting skills, fire service tools and equipment. Cadets respond to emergency calls, render Basic Life Support, and participate in training and in the daily station duties. The cadet program is one year in length, and cadets must be willing to commit a minimum of 48 hours per month. Upon completion, this one-year program meets the certification requirement of one year part-time/volunteer work experience for California State Fire Marshal’s Office State Firefighter 2 certification.
