The volunteers of Woodbridge Fire Department have been serving the residents of the Woodbridge and Sewaren sections of Woodbridge Township since 1897. We are looking for dedicated, motivated individuals that want to serve their community in a vitally important way. We provide all the training and equipment you need and only ask for your time and effort in return. Our members are from all walks of life, and you will make lifelong friends. You will gain experience and skills that will help you both personally and professionally. We do not have duty times or schedules, you respond when you are available. Serve the community by responding to calls for assistance including, but not limited to structure & vehicle fires, motor vehicle accidents, alarm activations, various types of rescues, natural disasters and more. Qualified individuals will be trained to drive fire apparatus and given consideration to become a leader as a firematic officer in the department. Training is offered at no cost to every member. Under the supervision of the Fire Chief, the Volunteer Fire Fighter performs advanced firefighting work in preventing, combating, and extinguishing fires and responding to emergency calls which include vehicle entrapment and other rescue situations. Being a Volunteer Fire Fighter involves training for and participating in duties of protecting life and property through the performance of firefighting and emergency service activities. Volunteer Firefighters are will learn and participate in the operation of apparatus and the performance of hazardous tasks under emergency conditions which may require strenuous exertion under such handicaps as smoke, fire, heat and cramped surroundings. Participation in 20% of department calls for service in a calendar year is required to remain an active Fire Company member. Although firefighting and emergency services work constitutes the primary and most difficult component of our work, the volunteer is also required to attend company drills when offered throughout the year. We provide free training to ensure you feel competent and confident in all the ways you serve. And we’ll be right alongside you, offering all the support you need as you develop into a certified firefighter and contributing member. | Requirements: Individuals 18 years of age and older: Complete initial application for membership. After receipt of application, the applicant will meet with an interview committee of Fire Company Officers and Members. After the interview, the application will be voted upon at the Company’s next meeting. If selected, the applicant will complete additional paperwork and successfully complete and pass required medical exam and background check.
