Volunteers help donors bring in and unload donations, check the condition of items, sort, hang, fold, or display them, and set them aside for future use in TAKE’s Christmas Room. Volunteers are crucial in operating the store and ensuring donations are ready for those in need.

Fluent Spanish-speaking volunteers assist customers and donors for whom English is not their native language, ensuring effective communication and service delivery.

Volunteers are needed to organize events, assist with fundraising, and engage in public outreach. This role is ideal for those with skills in event planning and community engagement.

Assist the vocal music program by donating food items, sewing, chaperoning travel events, or leading a committee. Volunteers are essential for the functioning of our program and help support choral activities at Ankeny High School.

To protect life and property, perform emergency rescue, provide emergency medical services, fire prevention and firefighting activities. Other functions can include report writing, records management and other related duties of the position. The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be assigned. Responds to EMS and fire calls in accordance with departmental SOP's in a safe and timely manner. Performs firefighting activities, including but not limited to, driving apparatus, pump operations, suppression, containment, ventilation, salvage and overhaul and any other job required to be performed at an incident. Performs emergency and rescue activities including driving and assisting with patients, and operating extrication tools, installation of cribbing and stabilization devices during rescue operations. Assess and coordinate resources and personnel with our department members to facilitate safety, quality care and triage of all patients. Assist Whiskers TNR by transporting foster cats to and from vet appointments. Volunteers must have a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle.

Join Whiskers TNR of Warren County at community events to help spread the word about their mission. Volunteers are needed to assist with event setup, engage with attendees, and promote the organization on social media.

Provide a temporary home for cats and kittens until they are ready for adoption. Fosters are responsible for the daily care and socialization of the cats.

Ensure maintenance and care for native plantings throughout Polk County parks. Provide a learning space for volunteers to gain knowledge and insight about gardening with native plants. Share resources and create a community of native plants enthusiasts. Encourage native gardens at home and throughout our community.

Walk and socialize with foster dogs by taking them out for walks and playtime. This typically requires a 30-60 minute commitment.

Provide local and extended transport for animals to medical appointments, events, or partner rescues. This role typically requires a 1 to 2-hour commitment.

Assist in planning and coordinating adoption events and fundraising activities to support the mission of rescuing dogs.

Provide temporary home care for rescued dogs, helping them adjust to a family environment and preparing them for adoption.

Take dogs for grooming sessions including baths, blow-drying, and nail trimming. This typically requires a 1 to 2-hour commitment.

Conduct phone interviews with potential adopters to assess their suitability for adopting rabbits. Requires good communication skills and coordination with the adoption team.

Assist adopters in understanding and managing various bunny behaviors, including aggression, shyness, and litter training. Experience with rabbits is required.

Assist with rescuing dogs from high-kill shelters and transporting them to temporary care homes. Volunteers will also help with dog placement and adoption processes.

Support the organization with administrative tasks, clerical work, and website updating to ensure smooth operations.

Conduct home visits for prospective adopters to ensure their applications can proceed towards approval. This can be done in-person or virtually and typically requires a 30-minute commitment.
