Assist with egg care, spawning activities, and fin clipping at Green Lake Hatchery. Volunteers are required to commit to at least 4 hours and will receive appropriate training.

Assist in patrolling Toddy Pond for invasive plant species to help maintain the ecological balance of the pond. Volunteers will be trained to identify and report invasive species to prevent their spread.

Help inspect boats at the East Orland Boat Landing to ensure they are free of invasive species before entering Toddy Pond. Volunteers will educate boaters on best practices for preventing the spread of invasive species.

Orrington Fire & Rescue serves a town of 3,700 people and assists five other towns with mutual aid. This department is a combination of full-time staff with paid-on-call volunteer members who provide high-quality fire suppression and transporting emergency medical services. VOLUNTEER/ON-CALL FIREFIGHTER JOB SUMMARY This is skilled firefighting work in the prevention and suppression of fires; and performs related duties as required. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS Work involves the protection of life and property through firefighting, fire prevention, and emergency medical care activities; some of which may require strenuous physical exertion under such conditions as smoke, fire, heat, and cramped quarters. Work includes direct participation and continual training in firefighting and rescue work, fire protection inspection, equipment operation, and routine maintenance of equipment apparatus and of fire stations and grounds. Work is directly supervised by a department officer and is regularly reviewed through observations, inspections of work in progress, results obtained, and work performance evaluations. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under direct supervision of Fire Lieutenant and utilizing the appropriate chain of command. SUPERVISION EXERCISED None.
