Youth firefighters participate in training programs and activities designed to prepare them for future roles in the fire service. They gain valuable skills and experience while contributing to their communities.

Assist in various conservation efforts including invasive species removal and habitat restoration. Volunteers will receive necessary training and work alongside experienced conservationists.

Lead bird walks at various locations throughout the Capital Region to promote birding and provide education. Volunteers should be comfortable speaking to groups and have a passion for birding.

Contribute articles and photographs to the quarterly online newsletter, Wingbeats. Volunteers will work with the editorial team to produce engaging content about local birding and conservation efforts.

Participate in educational outreach at farmers' markets and other outdoor events, spreading information about birds and their habitats. Volunteers will engage with the public and distribute educational materials.

Trail Ambassadors patrol segments of the trail for specified time periods to assist and inform trail users, monitor trail conditions, and promote courteous and safe use of the trail.

Help maintain a section of the Canalway Trail by performing regular maintenance to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for the public. Tasks include clearing debris and monitoring trail conditions.

I Love My Park Day is a statewide event to improve and enhance New York’s parks and historic sites. Volunteers participate in cleanup, improvement, and beautification events, including cleaning up park lands and beaches, planting trees and gardens, restoring trails and wildlife habitat, and removing invasive species.

Canal Clean Sweep is a statewide event where communities come together to participate in 'spring cleaning' along the Canal System and the Canalway Trail. Volunteer jobs range from picking up litter and brush on lock grounds to removing debris from local Canal parks.

Load and empty the dishwasher, run the disposal, and help wash pots. Must receive 'dishwashing 101' training prior to use.

Take hot meal orders from guests, serve hot meals, and remind guests to bus their dishes when finished. Encourage guests to move to side chairs after meals to free up tables.

Prepare hot meals and side dishes for the Winter Breakfast Program. Responsibilities include cleaning the griddle and ensuring food safety.

Make sandwiches and prepare lunch bags with assorted items according to the direction of the Food Manager. Guests may take one lunch per person and are asked to sign the lunch list.

Keep side tables clean, refill items on serving tables, clean up spills, wrap utensils, and perform other tasks as assigned by the Breakfast Coordinator.
