Sumter County Fire Explorer Post #343 is a junior fire program available to all youth members between the ages of 14 – 20 who have an interest in the fire service. Fire Explorer Post #343 conducts regularly monthly and the training meetings covering basic firefighting skills, CPR, First Aid, and numerous other fire service related topics. The Explorers may also act in a support role on emergency scenes and assist with non-emergency activities. Lt. John Carroll serves as the Explorer Post Committee Chair along with Sgt Jamison Tyler, who serves as the Lead Post Advisor. Sumter County Fire & Rescue is seeking volunteers for paid on-call positions as firefighters and support firefighters. We are a combination department, located in Americus Ga. Paid on-call volunteers comprise 75% of our department personnel. We also are seeking members who are interested in serving on our Dive Rescue Team, Ground Search & Rescue Team, and Rope Rescue Team. SCFR is responsible for the protection of life and property of approximately 475 square miles (15,000 citizens) of Sumter County, Georgia.
