The primary focus of the Resident Firefighter shall be to obtain on-the-job training to better prepare themselves for a career in the fire service. The Resident Firefighter will receive a volunteer stipend of $50.00 for each 24-hour shift that is worked. | Requirements: Age: • Must be at least 18 years of age by the date of appointment Education: • High school graduate or equivalent (GED) License and Driving Record: • Must possess a valid California State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License by the date of appointment • Clean DMV record with no major violations for 36 months and no more than one minor violation during the last 12 months Special Requirements: • Must be continually enrolled in at least one Fire Science or EMS related class at an accredited college, university, or other pre-approved courses. • Resident Firefighters must work a minimum of 3 (three), 24-hour shifts per month with their assigned officer/shift Physical: • Must be in excellent physical condition having passed the California Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) or internal district CPAT within the twelve months prior to appointment. Must also pass a district provided medical exam and drug screening Certifications: • Must maintain a current CPR provider card • Must successfully complete experience component of Firefighter-I Certification within eighteen (18) months of appointment. • Must possess a valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate within two years of appointment.
