The Berwyn Heights Volunteer Fire Department is a busy department in the heart of Prince George's County, MD near the University of Maryland . We provide training, gear, and support to succeed. We want and need candidates with a variety of work history, education, training, and skillsets. Life experience is what you bring to the table and we welcome people from a variety of backgrounds. Volunteering in the fire department is a unique experience that can be as rewarding and educational as you choose to make it. Motivation, dedication, and professionalism are qualities that successful volunteers must possess. Members of the Berwyn Heights VFD not only possess these qualities but are continuously seeking to further their knowledge and skills as well. Once a member has attained specific levels of training and experience, they are eligible to participate in any and all of the duties and functions of a Firefighter/EMT. Participate in Good Neighbor Day by enhancing the Lakeland Digital Archive. Volunteers can choose from tasks such as census record transcription, oral history transcription correction, and metadata entry into an archival database.

Join volunteers virtually to transcribe documents for the Lakeland Digital Archive. Projects include transcribing census records, historic University of Maryland ledgers, and funeral programs to preserve the history of the Lakeland community.

Volunteers are needed for special events like Lakeland Heritage Weekend to assist with administration, publicity, and collections. This role involves helping organize and manage event logistics to ensure a successful celebration of Lakeland's history.

Assist in packing meals for delivery to seniors. Volunteers help ensure meals are prepared and packed efficiently for distribution.

Engage in social outreach activities including events, social media, and community engagement to promote the organization's mission.

Deliver meals and friendly greetings to homebound seniors. This involves picking up meals at the HQ and delivering them along a pre-determined route directly to the homes of several seniors in your area.

Assist in writing grants and researching funding opportunities to support the organization's mission and operations.

Assist in organizing and participating in community events and workshops to promote CAF's programs and services. Volunteers will help with event logistics, engage with community members, and provide information about CAF's initiatives.

Join the Greenbelt Farmers Market board to contribute to the strategic planning and decision-making processes that keep the market vital. This longer-term volunteer position requires commitment and collaboration with other board members.

Volunteers are needed to manage the information booth during market days, providing assistance and information to visitors. This role is crucial for maintaining the market's operations and ensuring a positive experience for attendees.

Join the Earth Squad to practice stewardship for the Three Sisters Gardens and Food Forest. Volunteers participate in co-learning, tutoring, and mentoring activities at the Springhill Lake Recreation Center and Gardens.
