The Big Lake Fire Department is seeking self-motivated candidates who possess excellent professional and interpersonal skills for Paid-On-Call Firefighters. The Big Lake Fire Department currently has 38 Paid-On-Call firefighters to provide fire suppression, rescue and first aid, fire prevention, and community service. Individuals must meet response time requirements which include living within a response zone of 7 miles to the Big Lake Fire Station. A valid driver's license with a good driving record is essential. Compensation and Benefits All on-call firefighters are part-time employees of the city and township and are compensated for actual hours worked, including emergency responses, training, and special events. Pay starts at $15.00 per hour with annual steps with satisfactory reviews. Take client delivery orders by phone. Food packing teams and delivery teams are needed. Delivery is for seniors and disabled people.

Our cleaning team is very important in keeping our facility looking great. Sweeping, mopping, bathroom cleaning, etc. are part of the duties.

Accept delivery of weekly Second Harvest Food orders. Check delivery for accuracy, date boxes, and put food onto labeled shelves in stockroom.

Assist clients during their trip to the food shelf or clothing center. Work one-on-one with clients through the intake and shopping process.

Sort through donated food and clothing. Check dates on food, inspect clothing for quality. Some lifting may be required.

Under general supervision of an officer, the on-call firefighter provides fire suppression, rescue, medical and other emergency care in accordance the rules and regulations, administrative policies and operational procedures of the department. Call, visit, or visit and complete light housework for seniors in their homes. Provide companionship and support to help seniors feel less isolated.

Assist FIA staff in planning the annual Gala and Golf events. Use your organizational skills to help create successful fundraising events.

Assist with shoveling snow, mowing, raking leaves, and weeding gardens or yards. Help maintain the outdoor spaces of seniors and families in need.

Help pick up or deliver furniture to individuals and families in need. Support the Furniture for Families Program by providing essential household items.

Transport people to medical appointments and the store. Help seniors maintain their independence by providing essential transportation services.

Volunteers assist in providing vehicle repairs and maintenance to those in need. Tasks include performing oil changes, checking tire pressure, and replacing parts like alternators and brakes. Volunteers should have a genuine desire to help and serve the community.

Assist with organizing and managing youth lacrosse events, including setting up fields, managing equipment, and ensuring the smooth operation of games. Volunteers may also help with registration and providing information to participants and spectators.

Spend time in a Head Start classroom interacting with preschool children. Help them gain social-emotional and academic skills by leading activities, reading, or assisting with daily tasks.

Transport older adults without transportation to important destinations using your own vehicle. Help older adults get to medical appointments, shop for groceries, and remain independent in their homes.

Assist in running the thrift shop, which is entirely operated by volunteers. Opportunities include organizing items, assisting customers, and maintaining the shop.
