The Junior Firefighter position at Good Will Fire Company #1 is an entry-level role designed for individuals ages 16 to 18 interested in learning the skills and duties of a firefighter while contributing to the safety and well-being of the Belvidere community. As a Junior Firefighter, you will participate in a basic training program to learn skills and gain an undertanding of emergency responses, fire prevention activities, and company operations. This position offers an opportunity to gain basic skills in firefighting, rescue operations, and emergency response protocols, while working under the guidance of active firefighters and company officers. Junior Firefighters must adhere to all safety protocols and operational procedures of the GWFC and the New Jersey Division of Fire and Safety. | Requirements: Junior Firefighters are strongly encouraged to attend weekly training drills with the department to prepare them for the many challenges presented in an emergency situation. These Drills are closely supervised by fire department training officers and fire officers. In both training sessions and actual emergency situations, the safety of our Junior Firefighters are of paramount concern to the department. As such, Junior Firefighters are closely supervised and limited in activities and duties they can participate in. Once accepted into membership, new firefighters will attend Firefighter 1 training at their earliest opportunity as authorized by the fire chief and training officer. The fire academy is conveniently located at the Warren County Fire Academy in Washington. Classes are 2 nights a week with a day class on either Saturday or Sunday. Successful completion of New Jersey’s Firefighter 1 training program is required and prepares them for “Interior Qualified” status. Due to the inherent dangers of firefighting, strict rules of conduct and tight procedural standards have been established. Junior Firefighters are always expected to act maturely and are expected to read, understand, be subject to, and adhere to all rules, regulations, and standards of the Good Will Fire Company #1. In an actual emergency, it is essential that all firefighters act calmly and efficiently. Even with the training and supervision provided, firefighting is an inherently dangerous activity with the potential for serious injury. The fire officers will make every effort to minimize the Junior Firefighter’s exposure to danger, but it is also their responsibility to avoid unsafe practices and hazardous situations for which they are not adequately prepared, trained, or equipped. Rules Regarding Junior Firefighter Response & Participation Junior Firefighters are not allowed to respond to any emergency incident on their designated school days between the hours of 7:00 AM until the time that the regular school day ends. Junior Firefighters may not respond to an emergency incident, be at an incident scene or be on the fire company property or in our firehouses after 11:00 pm on a school night. The Oxford Volunteer Fire Department is a 100% volunteer fire department. We have been active since 1945. We are always accepting new members to serve and protect the citizens of Oxford and White township. We are equipped with 2 engines and a tanker/tender for our non hydrated/ rural areas, we also have a john deer gator equipped with a water tank that is used to assist forest fire and also assist for off road searches. Our county fire academy where we send our recruits to getbtheir firefighter certificate is located 10 minutes away in washington. Currently, we have about 20 rostered members lead by our Chief Tim Weiss, asst. Chief Kevin Murray, Captain Matt Correll and LT Josh Reeder. Ne are always looking to add more members to our roster! We have a drill 2x a month on Monday along with our 1st Monday being a meeting and the 3rd being a truck/equipment maintenance day for a total of 4 Mondays per month and the occasional weekend drills. If firefighting doesn't seem like you're cup of tea, but you'd still like to help, we are also accepting members of our auxilary department to help with fundraising and providing food/drinks at extended calls. The Hackettstown Fire Department operates 3 Engines, 1 Truck, Command Vehicle, and 2 Support Vehicles out of 2 firehouses that protect approximately 3.712 square miles with a population of roughly 10,000 people. Two companies, Cataract Hose Co. No. 1 and Vigilant Hook & Ladder Co. No. 1 provide the all volunteer manpower to the department. We answer roughly 300+ calls a year.
