Blooming Grove Volunteer Fire Department is looking for students (Enrolled or recent graduates) interested in becoming a state certified TCFP / SFFMA firefighter or EMT. Openings also exist for volunteer firefighter, emergency medical responder or both. The programs allows for career seeking individuals to participate in training and incident responses in order to obtain hands on experience to prepare them for a career. Once qualified as a member the department will provide all necessary training, protective equipment and alerting devices to the member at no cost to them. Blooming Grove Fire Department is an all hazards department, meaning we responding to all fire, medical, rescue, hazmat and industrial incidents. We also participate in all aspects of community relations and public education. Please note, This is a hands on internship not a ride along. The Retreat Volunteer Fire Department provides training for its members, to include: Firefighter classes, First Aid and CPR. Please realize you must have extra time in your schedule for emergency responses, training, and department functions. We mention this so you can take this into consideration before making a decision about joining our Department. Balancing family, work, other obligations, and recreation, while still providing time for our Department can sometimes be challenging, however rewarding, as well. Work with partners to receive and distribute pet food to families in need. Ability to transport food locally is very helpful. Commit 4-6 hours monthly to support families in Ellis County.

Attend city council and county commissioner court meetings to speak during public comments using prepared talking points. Commit 2-4 hours monthly to advocate for companion animals in Ellis County.

Work with local shelters to spotlight pets available for adoption and respond to requests for help. Commit 4-8 hours monthly to connect with the community and support animal welfare.

Assist in fundraising efforts and represent the group at community events to spread awareness about the Pet Coalition. Commit 6-9 hours monthly to support community animals.

Create affordable preventative care opportunities such as low-cost vaccine clinics and microchipping events. Commit 2-4 hours monthly to improve animal health in the community.
