A Firefighter is responsible for using their physical stamina and compassionate nature to combat fires and other hazardous situations while ensuring the safety of others. Duties include using equipment to extinguish fires, rescuing members of the public from dangerous conditions rescuing those in need from hazardous conditions and providing basic medical care, and assisting Law Enforcement at the scene of a car accident or natural disaster. Volunteers will provide gardening information to the public through activities such as Extension hotlines, workshops, speaker’s bureaus, garden show booths, and demonstration projects. Volunteers are required to complete a 30-hour classroom Core Course training and give 30 hours of volunteer service back to their community in approved University of Missouri Extension activities.
