CTFD is actively looking for volunteers of all levels. In March 2019 we consolidated Fire District #1 and Fire District #2 into one district and most recently, one fire company. Currently, we are staffed with career firefighters Monday through Friday from 7 am-5 pm. In addition, there is one firefighter/driver from 5 pm-7 am Monday through Friday and around the clock on weekends which during these times the rest of the crew is made up of volunteer firefighters. However, our qualified volunteer firefighter numbers have been going down dramatically over the past 15 years even with our community doubling in size. You will be trained in all aspects of the duties of a firefighter free of charge. You will be required to successfully complete formal recruit firefighter training at any Fire Academy in the state of New Jersey and pass a state written and practical examination. All protective clothing and equipment will also be provided free of charge. Junior Firefighter - Must be between the ages of 16 and 18. You will receive in-house training to prepare you to attend formal recruit firefighter training. You will be provided with all necessary protective clothing and equipment. You will be limited in responding to actual emergencies and will spend most of your time learning apparatus, equipment, and policies and procedures. Fire Police - This classification of membership is required to direct traffic and provide crowd control and security in and around emergency incidents and training. You will be required to successfully complete State mandated training at any emergency training academy in the state of New Jersey. You will be provided with all necessary protective clothing and equipment free of charge. Social Member - A Social Member is someone who does not want to respond to emergencies but is interested in serving in some capacity.
