Coal City Fire Prot Dist
The Coal City Fire Protection District is accepting applications for paid on call firefighters. Paid on call members provide skilled firefighting, rescue, emergency medical services, fire prevention and related support activities. Work involves responsibility for participating in the provision of emergency medical services, performance of rescue and fire suppression and prevention, as well as all duties delegated by law, ordinances, rules or regulations, or practices or procedures. Work involves the operation of fire, rescue and emergency medical service equipment, and the maintenance of equipment, apparatus and quarters. Employees are required to participate in the operation of apparatus and perform hazardous tasks and skilled medical procedures under emergency conditions, which may involve strenuous exertion under such adverse conditions as fire, heat, smoke, darkness and cramped surroundings. Although firefighting and emergency medical services work are the essential and most difficult and critical areas of activity, a substantial portion of time is spent training and studying methods, techniques, procedures and maintaining District property and equipment. | Requirements: Must be 18 years of age and have completed High School, and live within the Coal City Fire Protection District boundaries. Applicants will be required to pass annual medical physical examination as required by NFPA 1582. All members must successfully pass a pulmonary function test. The District will pay for examinations. Paid on call personnel shall, as a job requirement become certified to the Basic Operations Firefighter certification level by attending the Chief Shabbona Firefighter Training Academy, within one (1) year of being hired. The Dwight Fire Protection District is currently looking for paid-on-call firefighters. If you are interested in giving back to your community and learning a new skill, we will train you! We are accepting applications from Dwight residents as well as interested individuals who don't live in Dwight. All members that are hired who live "out of district" will be required to staff the Dwight Fire Protection District station for 8 hours every week on a "volunteer" unpaid basis and will be required to attend weekly training and monthly meetings that are scheduled to occur on Monday evenings per department policy. Members will be paid a "per call" stipend for any calls they respond to during their shift and will also be paid a "special pay rate" for conducting fire prevention activities and building inspections during their shift as well. If an out of district member is unable to staff the station during a particular week, the total number of minimum hours that the member must staff the station in a month must equal 40 hours. These hours are requested to be worked between the hours of 8 am to 4 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. In return the fire department will provide members with training, tuition reimbursement, use of our fitness facility, uniforms, and personal protective equipment. | Requirements: Members wishing to conduct firefighting operations will be required to pass an NFPA 1582 physical. All members must pass a criminal background check.
