We have many tasks that need to be maintained allowing Firefighters to focus on emergency response and training. Are you an event planner? The Orchard at Oak Ridge, is attached to the fire station and is a primary means of fundraising for the department. Are you an accountant? The department is responsible for millions of dollars worth of equipment and must maintain accurate financial records to maintain our non-profit status. Oak Ridge VFD is seeking Volunteer Firefighters to protect South Fayette Township, PA and the surrounding area. Membership is open to anyone 18 years old or older (15-17 year olds can join as Junior Firefighters). Job duties include responding to all-hazard emergencies 24/7/365 to assist your neighbors in their time of need, attending weekly training to maintain and increase skills, attending department monthly meetings and assisting with department and community events as needed. Interior firefighters are expected to be able to perform tasks necessary to extinguish fires both within and outside of structures and mobile vehicles and other emergencies. This includes the ability to wear full protective clothing, including self-contained breathing apparatus, deploy and manage hose lines, set up and climb ladders, enter hazardous environments for rescue, and fire suppression. Members wishing to become Interior Firefighters must complete the PA Entry Level Firefighter training program including the SBS and have a desire to attain the Firefighter I ProBoard certification. | Requirements: Application Process -Submit membership application along with required criminal background and child abuse clearances two weeks in advance of interview. -Must attend an interview with the membership committee -Application is presented to the membership to be placed on the roles as a probationary member for 6 months -Members vote on the applicant/probationary member at the regularly scheduled monthly meeting 6 months after the probation began. The Volunteer Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician (Volunteer FF/EMT) serves the community by responding to a wide variety of situations, ranging from emergencies that immediately threaten life or property to routine citizen requests for information or assistance. They perform within the scope of the policies and procedures of the Oakdale Hose Company and they perform duties in the following general categories: fire suppression, emergency medical aid or rescue, hazardous material responses, training, building inspections and public education. The Volunteer FF/EMT normally works under the supervision of a company officer and is expected to function effectively as part of a highly trained team. They are also expected to perform their duties under adverse conditions and physical conditions that may pose a high risk of personal injury or exposure to hazardous conditions or infectious diseases. The Volunteer FF/EMT is required to attend regularly scheduled training in order to maintain the high level of knowledge, skill and ability necessary to function safely and effectively as a firefighter and EMS provider in accordance with state law, county protocols, and standard operating procedures. The work performance of a Volunteer firefighter/EMT is continuously evaluated for general knowledge, skill proficiency, and ability to work as part of a team.
