Help maintain the farm's grounds, including plants, trails, and barn appearance. Requires a commitment of 20 hours monthly.

Spend time with equines to hone their manners and exercise them. Support volunteers in working with equines, requiring additional weekly hours dedicated to training.

Mentor peers in the care of equines, requiring knowledge and competence in equine care. Perform an additional chore shift weekly.

Assist with the daily care of the equines, ensuring they have food, water, and grooming. Maintain clean barn and outdoor spaces, and help with taking vitals. Participate in fundraisers and events to support the equines.

We off financial assistance with any Firefighter I or Firefighter II classes and also with any EMT classes. We have a robust cadet program that starts at age 14. They do their own training in accordance with CT State laws and we also offer EMT and firefighter ride time to observe how things work. The Pomfret Volunteer Fire Department is an all-volunteer, full-service fire department providing world-class fire protection and emergency medical response services. These services are provided through a highly-trained, dedicated and adaptable force of volunteers. Our firefighters respond to about 350 calls for service throughout the year. These calls include motor vehicle accidents, emergency medical situations, structure fires, hazardous materials incidents, water rescues as well as other emergencies. Pomfret Fire Department is seeking people to join our team of responders to fire, rescue, and medical emergencies in the town of Pomfret, CT. Our department responds to about 320 calls per year in our rural town of 4,200 people which covers 40 square miles. Applications are available on the website www.pomfretfire.org, at the station at 67 Hampton Road next to the Little League Field, or by request at emergencymanagement@pomfretct.org. All training is provided at no charge. We will work with anyone's skills and interests to develop a training path in one or more basic areas of: interior firefighter; exterior firefighter; rescue technician; emergency medical responder (EMT or EMR); truck driver; pump operator; Fire Police/Traffic Direction. Junior members ages 14-18 are welcomed and can serve under certain limitations. We also accept "Associate" members, who don't respond to calls but can assist the department with affiliated operations such as in-house documentation, equipment maintenance, fund raising activities, and public education. Active members are eligible to receive benefits including a per-call stipend and town tax abatement up to $1000. | Requirements: Pomfret residence is preferred but not mandatory. New members must pass a physical examination with the department physician (no charge). Interior Firefighters must show proof of or attain Firefighter 1 Certification. Foster homes are needed in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. Fosters provide a loving home and help prepare dogs for their forever homes. FADR covers all expenses, including food, while the dog is in the foster home.

Volunteers are needed to drive foster dogs to and from vet appointments and events, pick up new dogs from transport, and assist at adoption and awareness events. Volunteers will also help promote FADR and raise awareness about Dachshunds as pets.
