The Volunteer Firefighter serves the community by responding to a wide variety of situations, ranging from emergencies that immediately threaten life or property to routine citizen requests for information or assistance. They perform within the scope of the policies and procedures of Mt. Olive Vol. Fire Dept. and they perform duties in the following general categories: fire suppression, emergency medical aid or rescue, hazardous material responses, training, building inspections and public education. The Volunteer FF/EMT normally works under the supervision of a company officer and is expected to function effectively as part of a highly trained team. They are also expected to perform their duties under adverse conditions and physical conditions that may pose a high risk of personal injury or exposure to hazardous conditions or infectious diseases. Fosterburg Fire Protection District
Volunteers are on call by use of pagers. They respond directly to emergency scenes or to their closest station. Residency is required to be in District or living in any connecting city, township, or Village. Duty shift volunteers have no residency restrictions, however, they are not on call for emergencies and will not be issued a pager. Duty shift volunteers schedule themselves to work a minimum of 24 hours a month at either of the stations. They may be called in the event of a large incident. Operators are on call and trained to take over pump operations at emergency scenes. They are responsible for maintaining proper water flow and supply.
