As a hospice volunteer, you will provide companionship and emotional support to patients and families during end-of-life care. Responsibilities include sitting with patients, reading aloud, and assisting family caregivers by offering respite care.

Help assemble one and five-gallon reusable bags, soil, seeds or seedlings, and educational booklets for distribution. Groups of up to 20 are welcome, and events will occur outside or in a greenhouse.

Help raise funds for veterinary care of rescued dogs. Volunteers can assist with specific events or take charge of activities like bake sales to support the organization's mission.

Perform adoptions for animals by working with the public to secure new adoptive homes. Training is provided and required, including classroom sessions and coaching with active adoption counselors.

Handle dogs of all sizes at adoption events, knowing basic commands and safe training methods. Handlers are expected to walk dogs around the event and outside for necessary relief.

Provide temporary homes for dogs and puppies recovering from illness or awaiting adoption. Supplies are provided, and foster care is vital as the organization rescues animals from euthanasia.

Pick up animals from animal control facilities and rural pounds arriving in the Chicago area. Transport them to designated veterinary clinics as per a director's instructions.

Assist with administrative needs, website maintenance, graphic design, or other areas of expertise. Volunteers can contribute their talents to support the organization's operations.

Assist in organizing and managing events focused on collecting recyclable and reusable items. Volunteers will help set up, guide participants, and ensure smooth operation of the event activities.

Volunteers are needed to assist in the food pantry, helping to organize and distribute food to those in need. Volunteers will engage with visitors and contribute to creating a welcoming environment.

Assist in training service dogs for veterans by participating in scheduled classes and helping to evaluate and care for the dogs. Volunteers will work closely with trainers and veterans to ensure the dogs are properly trained to meet the specific needs of each veteran.
