Tramway Fire Department in Sanford, N.C., is recruiting for volunteer firefighters and firefighter/EMTs. The Tramway Rural Fire Department is located in southern Lee County North Carolina. Our department was established in 1953 and serves a population of approx. 6,553 citizens within a 26.67sq mile area. We are curently rated by ISO as a 5/9 and provide Structural Firefighting, Airport Firefighting, and Wildland Firefighting along with Haz-Mat Operations, Technical Rescue and EMS First Responders. Join our therapy dog teams to help elementary school students improve their reading skills. Volunteers will work with their dogs to provide a supportive and judgment-free environment for children to practice reading.

Assist in organizing and running Pet Care Day events, which provide free and subsidized veterinary services to the community. Volunteers will help with event setup, manage registration, and provide information to pet owners.

Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of Spout Springs Emergency Services. SSES is a combination department that has both career and volunteer personnel. Our volunteers staff apparatuses right alongside the career personnel and are an integral part of our response system. This means that we expect a lot from our volunteers, but in return, we provide all training, uniforms, and equipment you need to help protect yourself and the community. You also get the pride of knowing you made a difference in the lives of others. Spout Spring Emergency Services volunteers receive special consideration when full-time positions become available, though there are no guarantees a volunteer will be hired for a career position. If you are interested in applying, please come by Station 1 during business hours, Monday - Friday and pick up an application. Training is conducted weekly and it is mandatory that regular attendance is maintained. In the event regular attendance is not maintained (valid reasons are excused), individuals are subject to removal from the department. All volunteers must comply with SSES policies and procedures (SOGs). The application and clearance process can take a few months, though every effort will be made to determine eligibility as quickly as possible. Assist in providing medical care to the homeless population by accompanying medical professionals on street rounds. Volunteers will help with logistics, patient interaction, and distribution of medical supplies.

The Volunteer Firefighter drives or rides an emergency vehicle in response to fire, rescue and emergency medical events, hazardous materials response/mitigation, and routine requests for help or assistance. In the performance of their duties, the Volunteer Firefighter/EMT places equipment, lays and connects hose; operates high-capacity pumps and directs water streams; raises and climbs ladders; uses chemical extinguishers, safety belts, lines and hooks and uses self-contained breathing apparatus.
