Hurst is a rural all volunteer fire department in southern Illinois serving a population of approximately 1,000. The district is managed by a full time paid Chief, 3 Career Firefighters and a Secretary. The district has a wide variety of specialized equipment and well equipped trained paid-on-call members. The district is equipped for most emergencies that may arise with 8 engines, 7 tenders with 2,200 gallons of water each, 7 brush trucks, and 50 Paid On Call firefighters.
