Central Townships Joint Fire District
The Central Townships Joint Fire District, situated in Madison County, is a combination department encompassing 6 townships and covering an area of 221 square miles across 3 stations. Our department focuses solely on Fire - Rescue services and does not mandate any EMS certifications for employment. However, a minimum of a Firefighter Level 1 certification is required to be eligible for employment. The District will cover the cost of Level 2 certification if the employee opts for it, with the condition that the employee commits to a 1-year contract. Employees are expected to be available for 48 hours per month, with schedules set one month in advance. These part-time positions are compensated on a bi-weekly basis. Rural, farming community volunteer fire and EMS department seeks good neighbors to become Firefighter, EMT, Paramedic, Auxiliary, or Cadet volunteers. Candidates MUST live or work in Green Township, Clark County or very closely nearby, but no prior training or experience needed! Department will provide members with all background checks, initial and continuing training, uniforms, and equipment. Members can expect to respond from their homes/workplaces to attend fire or EMS calls approximately once or twice a week. Members are in the fire station nearly every Tuesday night. We are friendly, and would love to hear from you! Stop by, call, or email for more information. NOTICE: We are not a 24-hour staffed station; members respond to the station from their homes or workplaces to attend emergencies. Potential applicants MUST live or work nearby. | Requirements: Operational Members - General: Age 18 older. Must live or work in Green Township, Clark County or very closely nearby (chief's discretion). Must commit to actively serve for a time period commensurate with the expense of the initial training provided. Must complete appropriate job-related physical screening. Must complete BCI/NCIC background check. Expected to attend monthly membership meeting as possible (~2 hours on the last Tuesday night). Operational Members - Fire: Must complete 36 hour volunteer firefighter course; level 1 firefighter course recommended but not required. Firefighter 2 course may be taken, but department cannot provide CEUs for this level. Firefighters must complete yearly continuing education requirements; in-house training provided usually meets this requirement with twice monthly fire training (~2 hours on a Tuesday night, ~4 hours on a Saturday morning). Operational Members - EMS: Must complete at least an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course; EMT preferred. EMS personnel must complete yearly continuing education requirements; in-house training provided advances but does not always complete this requirement. EMS provider will need to seek outside training sources (seminars, presentations, conferences, online, etc [department will reimburse member]). Once monthly EMS training (~2 hours on a Tuesday night). Commit to cover at least a part of the nightly duty (6pm-6am) schedule. Auxiliary Members: Age 18 or older. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND LIMITED EMERGENCY RESPONSE DUTIES AS TRAINING PERMITS: - Performs firefighting activities including, laying hose, and performing fire combat, containment and extinguishment tasks if trained for this task. - Performs emergency aid activities including administering first aid and providing other assistance as required if trained for this task. - Performs salvage operations such as throwing salvage covers, sweeping water, and removing debris if trained for this task. - Responds to fire alarms and extinguishes or controls fires as a member of a team under the supervision of an officer if trained for this task. - Selects, drags, lifts and carries hose and nozzle depending on the type of fire, and correctly applies a stream of water or chemicals onto the fire if trained for this task. - Positions and climbs ladders to gain access to upper levels of buildings or assist individuals from burning structure if trained for this task. - Creates openings in buildings for ventilation or entrance using appropriate and available manual and power tools if trained for this task. - Protects property from smoke and water damage using positive pressure ventilation, salvage covers, smoke ejectors, and deodorants if trained for this task. - Wears appropriate protective clothing and equipment, including self-contained breathing apparatus if trained for this task. - Able to communicate with two-way communications systems if trained for this task. STAFF DUTIES: At direction of the Chief staff or Lieutenant; - Participates in fire drills, attends classes in firefighting, emergency medical, hazardous materials, and related subjects. - Attends regular and assigned training sessions to maintain and upgrade firefighting skills. - Participates in the inspection of buildings, hydrants, and other structures in fire prevention programs if trained for this task. - Maintains fire equipment, apparatus and facilities if trained for this task. - Performs minor repairs to departmental equipment if trained for this task. - Performs general maintenance work in the upkeep of fire facilities and equipment; cleans and washes walls and floors; cares for grounds around station; makes minor repairs; washes, hangs and dries hose; washes, cleans, polishes, maintains and tests apparatus and equipment if trained for this task. - Presents programs to the community on safety and fire prevention topics if trained for this task. | Requirements: SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: - Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older at time of hire; - Must reside within Miami Township or city, village or township not served by a volunteer fire-rescue department; - Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid state driver's license without record of suspension or revocation in any state; - No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven years; - Ability to read and write the English language; and - Ability to meet Departmental physical standards. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: - Graduation from high school or GED equivalent with no specialized training. - No specific work experience level required. - Certification as a volunteer firefighter/EMT Basic must be obtained within one (1) year of appointment. Miami Township Fire-Rescue can assist with obtaining certification(s).
