Volunteers assist with weeding, mulching, planting, raking, pruning, and general nurturing of the garden. They work alongside Master Gardeners and other community volunteers to maintain the park and are welcome to adopt a small area to care for.

Volunteers are needed to help with public events and fundraisers, including Daffodil Day and the annual spring Plant Sale. Tasks may include assisting with event setup, managing exhibits, and decorating the cemetery garden for Memorial Day.

Individuals, families, clubs, and organizations can adopt a section of the Whipps Garden Cemetery to re-create a Victorian-style garden. Volunteers are encouraged to research the history of the person/family buried in their section and care for the gravestones.

Join UofMD Extension Howard County Master Gardeners and other volunteers every Thursday from 9 until Noon, weather permitting, to work in the gardens. Volunteers learn gardening skills while contributing to the maintenance of the cemetery gardens.
