Essential job functions include: Safe and effective operation to protect lives, the environment, and property at fire, hazardous materials and rescue incidents and skillful use of specialized tools and equipment to include, but not limited to hose, nozzles, and appliances; power tools, and extrication equipment. Provision of basic life support resuscitation (CPR) and basic first aid Performing public education duties. Participating in training and development activities to maintain and improve professional knowledge and skills. Performance of routine station and apparatus maintenance duties. Members may also be responsible for safe and effective operation of apparatus and boats under non-emergency and emergency conditions. | Requirements: **Applicants who do not currently possess Firefighter certification should anticipate attending Recruit firefighter academy in the Fall of 2017. Further details will be discussed during candidate selection. Routine work activity requires moderate strength, endurance, and aerobic capacity. However, emergency response operations require significant physical capacity. Physical demands include: Heavy manual labor while wearing firefighter’s personal protective equipment and self-contained breathing apparatus. Work out doors in all types of weather conditions. Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate a variety of mechanical and office equipment. Crawling, bending, stooping, kneeling, and performing repetitive lifting for an extended period of time. Support Services Members give strength to our ranks through the support of operational tasks as well as community outreach. Support Services members are involved in filling air bottles on the scene and during training. Support Services members also perform apparatus truck checks as well as provide rehabilitation services for firefighters and EMS personnel. Support Services projects offer many different ways to provide community and district support. Neighborhood, Reserve, and Resident Volunteer Firefighters; and Support Services Members are the backbone of what we do and who we are. Without the participation and the high level of dedication by these members, the services provided by Fire District 10 would be considerably different. Spokane County Fire District #10 is looking for individuals living in our community or nearby that have personal and organizational integrity and will make a commitment and represent our agency with pride. Members are fully trained as structure and wildland firefighters as well as have an opportunity to become EMT’s. Fire District 10 firefighters respond to 1100+ emergency calls such as structure and wildland fires, medical emergencies including vehicle accidents, and hazmat situations. Support Services members also help drive water tenders, fill air bottles at training and on scenes, and help with firefighter rehabilitation. Resident opportunities are also available.
