Work one-on-one with a first-generation college student as they explore careers and receive professional development training. You will cultivate your Fellow’s strengths, help them secure internships, and overcome obstacles while building your leadership skills and growing your network.

Participate in monthly Saturday workshops to provide career advice and share professional experiences with first-generation college students. Engage in small group activities and help students explore career paths.

Volunteers will assist first-year Scholars during writing labs held from July 14 to September 15. Responsibilities include helping Scholars draft and edit their essays, providing feedback, and guiding them through the writing process to prepare their personal essays for college applications.

Conduct a behavioral or technical mock interview with feedback. This role involves 2 interviews (45 minutes each) on Mock Interview Day or scheduled 1:1 when available.

Support students after-hours with coding, debugging, and white boarding prep. This role requires a commitment of 2 hours per week for 15 weeks, choosing your evening.

Mentor a student 1:1, helping them with project work, answering questions about life as a software engineer, and offering career planning guidance. The time commitment is 2-4 hours per month for 5 or 7 months, based on your agreement with your mentee.

Assist with event setup, registration, and outreach to enrich the community and make a positive impact. Volunteers will play a crucial role in creating memorable experiences and empowering those around them.

A translator/interpreter accompanies trained wish granters on wish family visits to facilitate clear communication. They may also assist with translating documents and other materials.

Special event volunteers plan, organize, and implement successful fundraising events by working on event committees, helping on the event day, and/or participating in the event.

Office volunteers assist chapter staff with various tasks including phone calls, wish research, data entry, filing, and mailings.

Speaker's bureau volunteers present key information and share stories about Make-A-Wish to increase support and educate audiences on the organization's mission.

Use your skills on an as-needed basis. This volunteer should have professional knowledge of the skill, which may include graphic design, photography, carpentry, and more.

Wish granters meet with wish kids and their families to help children determine their wish. They work alongside Make-A-Wish staff and wish families during the wish process.

Assist in the early morning hours to recover injured birds and document fatalities caused by window collisions in downtown Chicago. Volunteers will also help with bird transport and advocacy efforts.

Volunteers for the Adventures Unlimited program assist with movement-based activities such as rock climbing, indoor skydiving, and goat yoga. The program includes biking and environmental stewardship with the Chicago Park District.

Envision Unlimited offers customized skill-based and general volunteer opportunities for corporate partners and their employees. Volunteers can help paint a program center, lead a financial literacy class, or collaborate on a customized project.
