We are looking for anyone living in the North Syracuse area interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter with the North Syracuse Fire Department. We are a very progressive department that currently is staffed with 40 firefighters including some that are also Paramedics and Emt's. We currently operate out of two stations with 3 Engines,1 Heavy Rescue, 1 Tower Ladder, 2 Light Rescues all under the direction of 3 Fire Chief's. We run approximately 700-800 calls of service a year. The North Syracuse Fire Department offers a free room and board program for student who are attending local colleges. Each bunk-in is provided a place to live during their college semester. In exchange for the free room and board the student attends weekly fire department training and provides a service as a volunteer firefighter during a scheduled shift. Our facilities are close to all Syracuse, NY area colleges and offers all the amenities needed for students. As a TeleCare Volunteer, you will provide reassurance and support to isolated individuals through scheduled phone calls. Responsibilities include offering medication reminders, welfare checks, and friendly conversation. Training is provided, and volunteers are expected to commit to a minimum of three 4-hour shifts per month for the first six months.

As a Contact Hotline Volunteer, you will provide emotional support to individuals in crisis through a confidential hotline. Volunteers will be trained to listen empathetically and support callers in exploring their feelings. A commitment of at least 12 months and completion of extensive training is required.

Help with transporting dogs to and from events, vet visits, and meet and greets. Volunteers ensure safe and timely travel for the dogs.

Capture high-quality photos of adoptable dogs to create a positive first impression for potential adopters. This role is vital in showcasing the dogs' personalities and helping them find homes.

Assist foster families by taking dogs for walks to ensure they get exercise and socialization. This role is crucial for the well-being of the dogs in foster care.

Engage with supporters and keep them updated on the rescue's activities through social media platforms. This role involves creating content and interacting with the community to raise awareness about the dogs available for adoption.

Spend a few hours helping out at one of our adoption or fundraising events. Volunteers assist with event setup, coordination, and engaging with attendees to promote the rescue's mission.

Work with youth in the after school program, providing mentorship and guidance. Volunteers will help organize activities and support educational efforts.

Assist with administrative tasks such as data entry, answering phones, and other office duties. Volunteers will help ensure the smooth operation of our programs and services.
