Join one of the most progressive, dynamic volunteer fire, rescue & EMS departments in the region, providing a full stable of services including engine company, truck company, rescue squad and BLS & ALS emergency medical services. <strong>At the HVFD, you are not a member of a department, you are a member of our family.</strong> We are a busy, urban fire/EMS department bordering the nation's capital, responding to nearly 6,000 calls for service every year. We are conveniently located adjacent to the Prince George's Plaza Metro station on the green line, making the HVFD an ideal place to volunteer wherever you live in the area. Although no previous experience or training is required, you need more than just a desire to help people. You also need courage and dedication, assertiveness, and a willingness to learn new skills and face new challenges. Our service is one that calls on its members to perform hot, sweaty, dirty, strenuous work, often in uncertain and hazardous environments.
