As a Sidekicks Respite Care Volunteer, you will assist in providing care and activities for children and adults with disabilities. Responsibilities include helping with snacks, crafts, and providing administrative support at the office.

In 1845, the Mountain Fire Company of Dahlonega was formed by 38 community members and even though the group only lasted about twenty years due to the Civil War, they laid a foundation for volunteer firefighters in the area. In 1948, community members organized the official fire department and started to grow. Today we have eight fire stations, with four of the eight manned 24 hours a day. As a Horse Care Volunteer, you will assist with feeding and watering horses, grooming, preparing daily supplements, and maintaining the ranch grounds. Volunteers are scheduled based on the organization's needs and can also help with fundraising and marketing efforts from home.

Performs firefighting duties such as combating, extinguishing and preventing fires, and answering emergency calls with an engine, rescue, or miscellaneous vehicles. Lays and connects hoses, direct water onto burning structures and/or motorized vehicles, raises and climbs ladders, uses other firefighting techniques such as ventilating burning buildings, administer first aid to injured persons, performs salvage operations, and responds and performs emergency medical activities. Participates in fire drills and attends training classes in firefighting, first aid and other related subjects. Handles routine custodial maintenance of the fire department equipment (such as firefighting tools, medical equipment, etc.) apparatus and quarters. Tutors assist participants in the Independent Living Program with educational pursuits, helping them to further their education and establish a career path.

Transportation Volunteers assist with transporting participants to various appointments and activities as part of their transition to independent living.

Volunteers help with routine maintenance and yard work on the Northern Star campus, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for participants.

Mentors provide guidance and support to young adults transitioning from foster care to independent living. Responsibilities include helping with education, career interests, budgeting, and life skills development.
