Many people volunteer for different reasons. Some people join for the action, they enjoy the excitement and adrenaline rush that EMS offers. Some feel that helping people in the community in their time of need is fulfilling while others feel it’s their obligation to serve the community. Others just want to belong to a team. LFVC offers many challenging situations from fires to motor vehicle accidents to sick and/or injured people. Your skills may be needed day or night, seven days a week, in any kind of weather, and very often under stressful and emotional circumstances. Yet these factors contribute to our profession being so personally rewarding. The personal rewards are many. Your sense of accomplishment when you help a sick person or help control a fire or perform a successful extrication at a motor vehicle accident, as a result of your training with us, will be beyond description. Your participation as a volunteer of LVFC will bring personal rewards and satisfaction, raise self esteem, and provide you with a sense of accomplishment and pride for a job well done. It also provides the community with a valuable service that has the potential to touch us all. However, becoming a member of the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Department requires a commitment.
