Volunteers are essential within our community to provide services including fire suppression, haz-mat response, basic medical emergency response, and many others tasks to keep the fire department operating efficiently and effectively. Volunteer firefighters will receive nationally recognized training, membership into the NVFC, membership into the Louisiana State Fireman's Association, NFPA compliant gear, portable radio, and a per call monetary reimbursement. The Ward 6 Fire Protection District #1 in Calcasieu Parish, Lousiana provides fire protection to 125 square miles and responds to approximately 300 calls for service annually. Looking for volunteers that reside in the North Sulphur or DeQuincy La. areas. The department protects the community with 5 fire stations strategically located throughout the fire district to minimize response times to emergencies. The department is currently in the recovery phase due to the effects of Hurricanes Laura and Delta and currently has 40 volunteer positions available. The Ward 6 Fire Protection District #1 is search for individuals with a little more to give. The department is staffed by volunteer firefighters and we need you. Volunteering as little as 5 hours per week can provide you an introduction to the fire service. Training, responding to emergencies, and of course the acceptance into the brother or sisterhood of firefighting will instill the skills you need to give back to your community. The volunteer firefighter's work together with other volunteers to check equipment, participate in training, respond to fires, vehicle crashes, haz-Mat incidents, and many other types of service calls. | Requirements: Training will be provided by the department. This program will teach the skills necessary to becoming an active firefighter for your community. The fire explorer program focuses on improving self-confidence, learning leadership qualities, and developing social network skills. Team building exercises will provide hands-on experiences that are fun and exciting as you learn the tactics firefighters use on a daily basis.
