The Dorset Fire Department is in search of community driven individuals who want to assist in emergency response to incidents within Dorset VT and surrounding mutual aid towns. No prior experience is necessary! Members will respond to emergency calls including but not limited to: automated smoke/CO alarm activations, motor vehicle collisions, residential and commercial structural fires, search and rescue, woodland fires, and EMS assists. All required training can be provided free of charge to motivated individuals through the department, and the Vermont Fire Academy. There are opportunities for interior, (SCBA certified), and exterior, (scene support), firefighting roles, as well as driver/operators for fire apparatus. The Dorset Fire Department is not currently an EMS or medical first response agency and only responds to medical calls when requested for assistance by the primary responding EMS agency. There are also opportunities for volunteers to take part in fundraising, clerical work, and community relations. Members will receive a pager and access to computer aided dispatching software, (CAD), and upon receiving an emergency call respond to the station to formulate a response. The department operates multiple state of the art fire apparatus including an Engine Tanker Apparatus (ETA), Engine-Rescue (ER), and a "Fast Attack" Mini Pumper. Additionally the department employs a 6x6 side by side, specially outfitted for wildland firefighting and search and rescue. As an Animal Care Volunteer, you will be responsible for cleaning and caring for the animals in either the canine or feline section of the shelter. This position requires a commitment of at least one recurring day each week and is open to individuals aged 18 and older.

As a Camp Companion Assistant, you will help the Youth Education Coordinator during summer camp sessions, assisting campers with activities. This opportunity is ideal for students aged 13 and older who need community service hours.

Event Volunteers help with various tasks before, during, and after community events organized by the shelter. This role is flexible, allowing volunteers to participate as their schedule permits, and is open to individuals aged 16 and older.

As an Animal Socializer, you will provide individual attention to shelter animals by petting, playing, and cuddling with them. This role is essential for the well-being of the animals and helps improve their chances of adoption.

Grounds/Maintenance Volunteers assist with minor repairs and upkeep of the shelter facility. This role is open to individuals aged 16 and older who are comfortable working with power tools and performing outdoor tasks.

Foster Care Volunteers provide temporary homes for stressed animals in need of a safe environment. The shelter supplies all necessary food, litter, and veterinary care for the animals placed in foster care.

As a Front Desk Volunteer, you will greet visitors, answer questions about the shelter's programs, and manage phone calls. This position requires individuals to be at least 18 years old.

Dog Walkers are needed to exercise the shelter's canine residents daily. Volunteers must be 18 years or older and are required to attend a mandatory orientation before starting.

Shelter Buddies is a program for volunteers under the age of 15, where they can socialize cats and participate in the 'Words for Whiskers' program by reading to cats. An adult must accompany each Shelter Buddy during their visits.

Anyone 16 or older can be a firefighter of the Clarendon Fire Association. Collaborate with the PDRC to plan and execute community events that promote Poultney's downtown. Responsibilities include event planning, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring successful event execution.

Assist in maintaining and beautifying Poultney's downtown through gardening and streetscaping projects. Volunteers will help with planting, weeding, and general upkeep of community green spaces.
