Pomfret Fire Department is seeking people to join our team of responders to fire, rescue, and medical emergencies in the town of Pomfret, CT. Our department responds to about 320 calls per year in our rural town of 4,200 people which covers 40 square miles. Applications are available on the website www.pomfretfire.org, at the station at 67 Hampton Road next to the Little League Field, or by request at emergencymanagement@pomfretct.org. All training is provided at no charge. We will work with anyone's skills and interests to develop a training path in one or more basic areas of: interior firefighter; exterior firefighter; rescue technician; emergency medical responder (EMT or EMR); truck driver; pump operator; Fire Police/Traffic Direction. Junior members ages 14-18 are welcomed and can serve under certain limitations. We also accept "Associate" members, who don't respond to calls but can assist the department with affiliated operations such as in-house documentation, equipment maintenance, fund raising activities, and public education. Active members are eligible to receive benefits including a per-call stipend and town tax abatement up to $1000. | Requirements: Pomfret residence is preferred but not mandatory. The Pomfret Volunteer Fire Department is an all-volunteer, full-service fire department providing world-class fire protection and emergency medical response services. These services are provided through a highly-trained, dedicated and adaptable force of volunteers. Our firefighters respond to about 350 calls for service throughout the year. These calls include motor vehicle accidents, emergency medical situations, structure fires, hazardous materials incidents, water rescues as well as other emergencies.
