Scott Volunteer Firefighter

Scott Fire Department

129 Lions Club Road, Scott, LA (5.4mi)

Skills:

Skilled Craft or Trade, Healthcare/Medical, Interpersonal

Causes:

Disaster Relief, Poverty, Veterans & Military Families

“Have you ever watched a fire truck pass by with lights and sirens, and thought about where it might be responding?” If your answer is YES, then maybe it is time to learn more. You might not have known, and like other residents in the Scott area, most do not even realize the SFD is heavily supplemented and relies on Volunteers. Here is your chance to become a firefighter, which is a great way to give back to the community and gain a unique lifetime experience like no other. If you potentially want to become a career firefighter full-time, this is a great stepping stone. Many of our previous Volunteers have gone on to be employed full-time for other agencies, such as the Lafayette Fire Department. “JOIN OUR TEAM”……………………… The Scott Volunteer Fire Department is accepting applications for Volunteer Firefighters. Be part of a team that makes a real difference. Your efforts will help keep our community safe and respond to emergencies. Like many other local municipalities and most of the United States, full-time and part-time firefighter staffing is very limited due to cost. Still in North America even today, over 60% of the majority of Fire Department staffing is comprised of Volunteers. The number of volunteer firefighters is decreasing, as call volumes and the need for fire services increase. Becoming a Scott Volunteer Firefighter isn’t just running into burning buildings. Scott Firefighters have multiple responsibilities beyond responding to structure, vehicle, and all other types of fires. The SFD also responds to medical emergencies, water rescues, hazardous materials incidents, vehicle crashes with injuries, and all incidents requiring the response of the Fire Department. Scott Volunteer Firefighters also participate heavily in special events and fire prevention education details in the community, such as Festivals, Football games, and other public events. In 2024 the SFD responded to over 1000 calls for service, and that number is ever-rising, each year with the growth of our community. No previous experience? No problem. We provide all the training you need to become a firefighter. You will work hands-on, side by side with trained and certified Firefighters, receiving training and learning the basics to assist and complete the required job tasks. The task you learn will not only help the community but could also aid in helping or saving the life of a loved one, in your non-fire department life. Life as a Scott Volunteer Firefighter is not as time-consuming as most think. The volunteers of the SFD participate in weekly training and online computer-based assignments. Volunteer Firefighters also respond to emergencies at their availability or work volunteer shifts at the fire station. Scott volunteers and their families go about enjoying their daily lives and activities. It is neighbors helping neighbors, and even if you are not from the immediate Scott area, the self-gratification of helping someone in need is priceless. Join a close-knit group of volunteers who support each other both on and off duty. You’ll build friendships and connections that last a lifetime. We thank you for your interest and hope you continue the application process to become a Scott Volunteer Firefighter.
