Docents greet visitors in the Museum’s historic boardinghouse and answer any questions they may have relating to the Lyme Art Colony, Miss Florence Griswold, and the history of Old Lyme. This role is essential for enhancing the visitor experience and sharing knowledge about the museum's history and collections.

Educators lead school-aged children on fun and informative field trips of the Griswold House as well as interactive tours of the exhibitions. This role involves engaging with young audiences and facilitating their learning about art and history.

The Garden Gang helps to maintain the Museum’s historic gardens, ensuring they remain beautiful and vibrant for visitors. This role is perfect for those who enjoy working outdoors and have a passion for gardening.

Volunteer firefighters at the Goshen Fire Department respond to various emergencies including fire, rescue, marine, medical and so many other types of emergencies. Our volunteers staff two Class A pumpers, a 24' Fire Boat, a 14' rigid hull inflatable rescue boat, a UTV, and two service trucks. Firefighters are provided with all training to become certified Firefighters, EMTs, and more. Once certified, firefighters are eligible to receive as stipend for each call they respond to as part of the paid-per-call system in the Town of Waterford. Members also receive a stipend for completing certification classes. | Requirements: In order to apply to be a volunteer firefighter you must be 18 years of age or older. Fire Police Officers provide support to fire department and police department operations by assisting with traffic management at emergency scenes. The traffic vest and traffic wand are the uniform of the Fire Police Officer as they assist the public in avoiding dangerous situations such as motor vehicle accidents, fire scenes, utility emergencies and more. Fire Police Officers also take an active role in the community by assisting with traffic management at events such as road races, school events, motorcycle charity runs, beach concerts, and more. | Requirements: To become a Fire Police Officer you must be 18 years of age and apply to join the department. Community Engagement & Outreach Volunteers assist Museum staff with programs taking place throughout the local region, including activities at local farmers markets and regional festivals. They represent the Museum outside of its walls and engage with diverse audiences.

Event Volunteers support Museum staff during high-capacity special programs and events, assisting with wayfinding, greeting guests, and helping with registration. They contribute to creating a positive environment for all visitors.
