Volunteer firefighters at the Goshen Fire Department respond to various emergencies including fire, rescue, marine, medical and so many other types of emergencies. Our volunteers staff two Class A pumpers, a 24' Fire Boat, a 14' rigid hull inflatable rescue boat, a UTV, and two service trucks. Firefighters are provided with all training to become certified Firefighters, EMTs, and more. Once certified, firefighters are eligible to receive as stipend for each call they respond to as part of the paid-per-call system in the Town of Waterford. Fire Police Officers provide support to fire department and police department operations by assisting with traffic management at emergency scenes. The traffic vest and traffic wand are the uniform of the Fire Police Officer as they assist the public in avoiding dangerous situations such as motor vehicle accidents, fire scenes, utility emergencies and more. Fire Police Officers also take an active role in the community by assisting with traffic management at events such as road races, school events, motorcycle charity runs, beach concerts, and more. | Requirements: To become a Fire Police Officer you must be 18 years of age and apply to join the department. The Volunteer Firefighter/EMT drives or rides an emergency vehicle in response to fire, rescue and emergency medical events, hazardous materials response/mitigation and routine requests for help or assistance. In the performance of their duties, the Volunteer Firefighter/EMT places equipment, lays and connects hose; operates high-capacity pumps and directs water streams; raises and climbs ladders; uses chemical extinguishers, safety belts, lines and hooks and uses self-contained breathing apparatus. The Volunteer Firefighter/EMT may enter burning buildings as part of a fire suppression team, perform ventilation tasks above ground, carry heavy objects and equipment and rescue injured or trapped victims. The Volunteer Firefighter/EMT also responds to requests for pre-hospital emergency medical care. After completing initial requirements, the company funds training opportunities in fire, ems, and rescue disciplines for our volunteer members. Our company also maintains a cadet and junior firefighter program that allows children 14-18 the ability to learn fire and emergency services operations that will prepare them for future service within the company.
