Your East Meadow Volunteer Fire Department is currently accepting applications for positions as firefighters and medical technicians. As a member you will receive expert training in your assigned duties. Not only will you train to become a firefighter or medical technician for your East Meadow community but you will earn the credentials to pursue a rewarding career in the emergency service field, if you choose to do so. It is not uncommon for East Meadow volunteers to use their training as a stepping stone to a full-time career in the police, fire, or medical emergency fields. | Requirements: You must be at least 18 years or older. Explorer meetings are generally on Wednesday nights from 7 pm to 9 pm. We have activities on other days depending upon the needs of the Fire Department or outside training. In this role, you will help adults who never learned to read or write in a supportive group environment. Small group instruction meets for 2 hours per week on an ongoing basis at local libraries.

As an instructor for English Language Learners, you will provide small group instruction for beginner level English language learners. Classes meet for 6 hours, 2 times a week from September to June.

As a facilitator for the Next Chapter Book Club, you will guide small book clubs of 6-8 adults with developmental disabilities, meeting once a week for an hour at select libraries and cafes across Long Island.

In this role, you will lead creative writing clubs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, meeting once a week for an hour at select libraries and cafes across Long Island.

Volunteers dedicate their time, skills, and love to help care for and place abused animals. Responsibilities include assisting with animal care, supporting rescue missions, and helping with events.
