Volunteers assist in the Bookstore and Gift Shop with sales, ordering, tagging, stocking shelves, decorating, and taking end-of-year inventory. Opportunities are available throughout the year, with a higher need from May through October.

The Clearing’s Winter Program is a great opportunity for people to volunteer their time and share their expertise through teaching. The Winter Program runs for eight weeks during January and February, offering over 100 classes in the arts, fine crafts, humanities, and natural sciences.

Volunteers are needed year-round to cut out, route, and sand chair pieces, and to assemble chairs. This role supports the creation of Emma’s Chairs, which are specially designed Adirondack chairs.

Volunteers participate in Spring and Fall Work Weeks, performing tasks such as raking leaves, making firewood, washing windows, and painting to prepare The Clearing for upcoming seasons.

Volunteers demonstrate an art or craft and interact with visitors, typically scheduled for Saturday or Sunday afternoons from May through October in the Jens Jensen Center.

Opportunities to volunteer in The Clearing’s office include answering phones, helping with mailings, data entry, word processing, and making copies. This role is ideal for those who enjoy working in an office environment.

Volunteer greeters and hosts welcome visitors, answer questions, and distribute literature and trail maps. This role is essential in providing a warm and informative experience for visitors.

During summer and fall, Clearing docents lead weekend walking tours of The Clearing. These tours focus on Clearing history and the native landscape. Special in-depth training is provided.

Help with data entry tasks for archiving historical information. This role involves entering data into our digital archives to preserve historical records.

Help staff the Sister Bay Historical Society information table at various events. This role involves interacting with the public and providing information about our organization.

Participate in spring cleaning activities at the museum and historical sites. This role involves general cleaning tasks to prepare our facilities for the upcoming season.

Assist with various special events such as Trivia Night, Rummage Sale, Garden Walk, Fish Boil, Farmers Market, and Christkindlmarkt. This role involves a variety of tasks to ensure the success of these events.

Assist in receiving and sorting donations. Volunteers will help ensure that all incoming items are properly categorized and prepared for sale.

Assist with opening and closing the store, aiding website development, and looking up the value of items on the Internet.

Help put items out on the sales floor and restock different departments. Volunteers will ensure that the store is well-organized and items are displayed attractively.

Assist in picking up large furniture donations, including driving the truck. Volunteers will help transport items safely to the store.

Door Shakespeare is looking for friendly volunteers to assist with performances. Tasks include greeting patrons, directing them to parking, selling concessions, helping at wine night, and ushering. Office and administrative projects are also available.
