Volunteer Firefighter is an entry level position and reports to the elected officers of the Fire Department as well as the Board of Fire Commissioners. This position attends trainings and meeting as well as responds to emergencies including but not limited to: Fire, EMS calls, motor vehicle accidents. Volunteer packers are responsible for preparing and packing meals for delivery. Packers work from 9 AM to 11 AM, one day a week, and ensure that meals are correctly packed and ready for distribution.

Volunteer drivers are needed to deliver meals to residents in the Hyde Park area. Drivers work from 11 AM to 1 PM, one day a week, and are responsible for ensuring timely and friendly delivery of meals to clients.

Assist with food distribution on Fridays by helping with set-up, registration, and intake. Volunteers will help load tables with fresh produce and assist neighbors in selecting food options. A commitment of 3 to 4 hours is required each week, and the ability to lift up to 40 lbs. is necessary for some positions.

Assist in obtaining food by helping with computer-based ordering from the Regional Food Bank and shopping for necessary items at local grocery stores. This position requires a commitment of 1.5 hours twice a month, with no heavy lifting involved.

Help with packing and delivering food bags to shut-in and transient neighbors. This role involves preparing bags prior to delivery and may require driving to deliver food. A commitment of up to 3 hours per week is expected.

Performs firefighting duties such as extinguishing outside fires, drives fire apparatus, deploys & connects hoses, raises ladders, uses other firefighting techniques such as ventilating burning buildings from outside, rescuing trapped occupants of a motor vehicle accident, sets up scene lighting, performs rehab operations, assists interior firefighters with air bottle changes and filling of air bottles, assists incident commanders with scene safety, personnel accountability and communications, and responds and performs emergency medical assistance to the level of certified training. Participates in training classes in firefighting, first aid and other related subjects. Handles routine custodial maintenance of the Fire Company equipment, apparatus and quarters.
