St. Tammany Fire Protection District #5 serves the northwestern corner of St. Tammany Parish, including the Village of Folsom and surrounding areas. We are a combination fire department staffed with full-time, part-time and volunteer firefighters who respond to emergencies including fires, medicals, rescues, motor vehicle crashes, hazardous materials releases, and many many more. STFD5 is always looking for new members to help bolster our response to emergencies in our community. We will provide the training and equipment necessary to accomplish this task. Some of our volunteers even become career firefighters! | Requirements: Firefighters and responders must be of sound health and physical ability to train and respond safely to emergencies. Attend and/or speak in support of the rivers at public hearings. Volunteers will represent Northshore Riverwatch and advocate for sustainable river management practices.

Contribute writing and photography skills to support Northshore Riverwatch's advocacy and communication efforts. Volunteers will create content for newsletters, social media, and other platforms.

Help organize events to support the advocacy goals of Northshore Riverwatch. Volunteers will assist in planning, coordinating, and executing events aimed at raising awareness and support for river conservation efforts.

Participate in a water assessment and testing program. Volunteers will assist in collecting and analyzing water samples to monitor river health and support conservation efforts.

Volunteers research, write, and present horticultural talks for the community, garden groups, STP libraries, and the organization's general membership.

Volunteers help answer St. Tammany residents' garden-related questions/problems and assist the 4-H agents at the LSU AgCenter in Covington.

Volunteers set up a table for demonstration and/or distribution of educational materials on topics like beekeeping, hummingbirds, native plants, and composting at various events.

This group is dedicated to learning more about growing fruit and vegetables in St. Tammany Parish, presenting information on current research and best practices to the community.

STMGA volunteers and the Covington librarians host a Spring Garden Festival with local speakers, Table Talks, plant vendors, and refreshments at the Covington Branch Library.

Volunteer musicians are needed to perform at community events, providing musical entertainment and supporting local celebrations. Musicians will participate in events like Covington’s 'Sparks in the Park' Independence Day celebration.

Volunteers field questions and offer LSU Ag Center contact information, printed materials such as planting guides, monthly suggestions, soil test boxes, and STMGA class information at the Covington Farmers Market.

Volunteers are responsible for nominating students who have overcome adversity or made a positive impact for complimentary orthodontic treatment. Volunteers will submit stories of deserving students to the organization for consideration.

Become a foster home for rescue animals, providing them with a temporary and loving environment until they find their forever homes. This is a crucial role in the organization's mission to save animals.

Support various fundraising and adoption events throughout the year by helping with setup, coordination, and engaging with the public to promote animal welfare.

Assist with the care of adoptable cats at the Covington PetSmart by cleaning cages and socializing with the animals. This helps keep the animals healthy and happy while they await adoption.

STMGA volunteers meet at Habitat Restore to educate and assist new homeowners with their gardens and landscapes twice a year.
