Joining the fire service is a great way to directly serve your community, as well as gain valuable life skills. It provides a deep sense of purpose and community, as volunteer EMS is crucial for the safety of our district. Seven out of ten firefighters and emergency responders are volunteers and we are looking for more volunteers like you. We invite you to join our family that'll always have your back and train you to serve our community in ways few can. Active members receive a Chautauqua Institution gate pass, Turner gym membership, activewear with the CFD logo for identification on EMS calls, and membership appreciation events. After two years of active service, members receive a partial real estate and income tax exemption, as well as higher education scholarship opportunities. NYS stipends are now available for firefighter training. All training, physicals, and gear / PPE are provided and/or paid for by the department. Other advantages include gaining skills to help build your resume, making new friends as part of a team, and making an immediate, positive impact on those around you. | Requirements: Residency within the fire district or a territory outside of the fire district that is afforded fire protection by the district. If you are not a resident of the district you may apply for membership if you work within the district and would be able to render active service. Must be at least 18 years of age or at least 17 years of age for EMT volunteers. Responsibilities of members: 1. In the first two years of active service the member must obtain training in either: a) Basic fire training b) Emergency Medical Technician training 1. Serve on one committee 2. Participate in 2 department events (in addition to our 1st summer BBQ fundraiser.
