The Garrettsville Freedom Nelson Joint Fire District is a fire and rescue department that does not provide EMS services. We cover 52 square miles, which consists of a Village and two Townships. The district is very diverse, covering Nelson Ledges State Park, where we perform high angle rope rescue, eight miles of the Ohio Turnpike with two service plazas, an industrial area, two shopping plazas, two car dealerships, and a downtown area. We staff Monday - Friday from 07:00 - 16:00 and on weekends during special events. The rest of the time, we are call in department and are paid per hour for responses. We average approximately 300 calls a year, and provide mutual aid to many of the surrounding communities. Our fleet consists of one 70' aerial platform, one rescue engine, two 3,000-gallon tankers/tenders, one grass truck, one Gator, one special operations vehicle (ice and rope rescue equipment), as well as two staff vehicles. | Requirements: Certifications start at a 36-hour certification initially "Volunteer Firefighter", Firefighter 1 which is required to be able to work on station and Firefighter 2 certification which is the highest level card you van obtain. Specialty certifications of rope rescue, fire safety inspector, fire instructor, and more are available. National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700 and 800 are required, and offered. We train and obtain required continuing education at the station on the first three Wednesdays of the month, beginning at 19:00. For our Junior program, you must be 16 years of age to begin, with a parent of guardians consent. You will learn the equipment and what it is used for. Assist IllumIKnation Station by volunteering your time from home to complete various tasks essential for the organization's operations. Tasks include video editing, data entry, sign making, and social media postings, among others.

Volunteer as a Grassroots Presenter to share your skills, knowledge, or experience at various IKS events. Presenters are individuals already attending events who volunteer an hour of their time to conduct workshops on diverse topics, from speeches to crafts.

Provide a temporary home for Shetland Sheepdogs in need. Volunteers will care for the dogs, including feeding, walking, and socializing them until a permanent home is found.

Assist in transporting Shetland Sheepdogs to and from foster homes, vet appointments, and adoption events. Volunteers must have a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle.

Guide newly diagnosed women and women in treatment to help them feel less alone. Pair up with one of our survivors to talk/text and encourage them along the way.

Assist with grooming Shetland Sheepdogs to maintain their health and appearance. Volunteers should have experience or willingness to learn basic grooming techniques.

Join the Snowbelt Symphony family by volunteering for general office help, data entry, publicity, fundraising, and graphic design. On concert days, assist with setup and teardown, ticket sales, greeting, ushering, concessions, photography, and videography.

Conduct home and vet checks to ensure potential adopters meet the necessary requirements for adopting a Sheltie. Volunteers will need good communication skills and attention to detail.

Join The Hope Still Lives Project to advocate and raise awareness on pregnancy loss. Volunteers will engage with the community to spread awareness and provide support to families affected by pregnancy and infant loss.

We are a small volunteer department in Eastern Portage County that serves Charlestown Township and the majority of West Branch State Park. We train on Monday evenings from 1830-2130(ish). Our fleet consists of an Engine, Tanker and Mini-Rescue. We average around 220 calls a year. We first respond to all EMS alarms and are contracted with Ravenna City who handles all of our EMS transports. We prefer those with training/experience but are also willing to send you to school when available with some stipulations. Join the team preserving and restoring the historic Newton Falls Community Center. Volunteers will be contacted when needed to assist in various restoration tasks.

Foster homes are essential to the rescue's operations, providing temporary care for greyhounds transitioning from the track into the adoption program. Volunteers are expected to provide a safe and nurturing environment, comply with organizational guidelines, and participate in events with their foster dogs.

Assist with organizing fundraising events, creating gift baskets, and contacting local businesses for gifts and sponsorships. Volunteers also promote events via social media or flyer placements.

Provide transportation for vet appointments, meet and greets, and moving dogs from shelters to foster homes. Volunteers help ensure dogs reach their forever homes safely.
