Our members are required to attend Monday nights, as well as respond from home for calls when they are available. We are working on implementing duty crews, which would allow for more ride time as well as opportunities to attend calls and drills. We have facilities for studying, relaxing, and cooking when not on calls. Do I get paid? Currently, volunteers do not get paid, but are offered a LOSAP program which allows for a retirement plan to be saved up on, a year to year basis. What Training will I receive? All new members will receive an orientation and a initial recruit training, and then when signed off on, they will be sent to the Fire Academy. EMT is optional. Training courses are available during the evening hours and on weekends. All tuition, equipment, and safety gear is provided by the department. Required training for a firefighter consists of approximately 125 hours of basic firefighting techniques including; fire behavior, rescue, salvage, overhaul, ladder practices, ventilation, firefighting tactics, water supply and more. Required training for an Emergency Medical Technician consists of a 240 hour state certification course which includes ambulance operations, CPR, bandaging, splinting, oxygen delivery, patient assessment, and more. These classes are usually held two nights during the week over a four month period. While our primary function is protecting the residents of Milmont Park, Pa and the surrounding communities of Ridley Township, we are very active with fire prevention, community events and activities. We are currently utilizing free online firefighter training to serious applicants. | Requirements: All training is provided . Members can start as low as the age of 14-15 as cadets, 16-17 Junior membership, and 18+ for senior membership. All applicants will need to pass a Pennsylvania child abuse clearance as well as state criminal history background checks. Applicants still attending high school, will also need working papers. The Woodlyn Fire Company of Ridley Township, Delaware County, Pa is seeking motivated and driven individuals to join our ranks. We are currently looking for members who could serve in any capacity within the department. The opportunities at the Woodlyn Fire Company include, but are not limited to Firefighter, EMT, Administrative, Fundraising, and Auxillary. We operate 4 Basic Life Support Ambulances with 1 paid EMS crew of 2 people 24/7, year round, 5 pieces of fire apparatus and the Ridley Township Hazardous Materials Spill Unit. The company ran 253 Fire related emergencies for 2015 and are on pace to surpass that for 2016. We host Bingo on Monday and Friday nights, as fundraising, as well as selling Christmas trees, Mothers Day, and Easter flowers. Due to Insurance liability Ridley Township has advised that no township fire company can operate a tag day, so that is one big one we cannot do. | Requirements: There are no requirements for any of the above listed positions, the fire company will pay for all necessary schooling or training that is needed for the position. Volunteers are matched with a Mama and support them by checking in bi-weekly, helping with transportation, and connecting them to resources provided by L.A.M.P. Volunteers also help set up events such as quarterly baby showers for expecting mothers.
