The Glenn Dale Fire Association is located in the bustling suburbs of Washington, DC. The company runs over 6500 calls a year on average. We are currently recruiting for both our Live-In Program and Regular Membership. We operate a Heavy Rescue Squad, Rescue Engine, Engine, Ambulance, and Paramedic Ambulance. The firehouse is conveniently located near several local colleges including UMD and PGCC. Capture and edit photos of horses and farm activities for promotional and educational purposes. Volunteers help document events and daily life at the sanctuary.

Guide guests on tours through the barnyard, engaging and educating them about the animals. Volunteers are responsible for set-up, clean-up, and ensuring a positive visitor experience.

Assist with maintaining databases, creating flyers, managing social media accounts, and helping with document preparation. Volunteers support the administrative functions of the organization.

Assist with the day-to-day care of horses and farm animals, including feeding, mucking, grooming, and stable clean-up. Volunteers also interact with the public during events to ensure safety for animals and guests.

Provide maintenance for the barn grounds, including painting fences, mowing, and planting flowers. Volunteers help improve safety, accessibility, and aesthetics for animals and participants.

Assist with preparing students and horses for riding lessons, including grooming and equipment organization. Volunteers help ensure a safe learning environment and support the lesson program.

Volunteer to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) classes ranging from basic to advanced levels. Help students improve their English skills in a supportive environment. Volunteers should be experienced in teaching English and willing to commit to a 12-week course.

Assist in teaching basic computer skills to help individuals improve their employment opportunities. Volunteers should have a good understanding of computer basics and the ability to teach others.

Provide legal assistance for complex immigration cases. Volunteers should be qualified attorneys willing to donate their time to help individuals navigate immigration processes.

Volunteers are needed to support various events and initiatives aimed at empowering girls and women. Responsibilities may include event planning, outreach, and administrative tasks.

Feed, clean, and socialize adoptable kittens and cats in two local shelters. Additionally, care for dogs in the Temporary Holding Rooms in City Hall.

Assist in providing food, toys, and cat litter to local residents through the Pet Food Pantry program.

Assist with picking up pre-paid online shopping orders for Greenbelt residents. Volunteers coordinate with clients to ensure timely and accurate pickups.

Offer respite care services to provide temporary relief for primary caregivers of Greenbelt residents. Requires an in-home assessment.

Provide pet sitting services for Greenbelt residents. Requires an in-home assessment to ensure suitability for the role.

Whether you are already a member of the community, or a university student looking for some life experience outside of the classroom, the Greenbelt Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad is always on the look out for dedicated individuals eager to help the community as well as themselves. Located in the city of Greenbelt's historic downtown, the firehouse sits less than four miles from the University of Maryland, and just six miles from the East border of Washington, D.C. We are situated just one mile from both the Baltimore/Washington Parkway and Interstate 495, and just two miles from the Greenbelt Metro Station. Volunteer firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians respond to emergency calls every night of the week in this suburban sprawl of the Nation's Capital. Some members decide to live at the station, running calls for their rent. Others dedicate two nights a month to be on a Duty Crew. Volunteers receive FREE training to become certified firefighters and/or Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), are issued equipment with NO out-of-pocket expenses, and are eligible for many long-term rewards for their service.
