Volunteers ride along with our driver and assist in loading, unloading, and organizing food as it is distributed across our service area. Volunteer summit stewards protect vulnerable alpine plants by encouraging hikers to walk on solid bedrock above the timberline, answering questions, doing trail work, and participating in research on the summits.

Adopt and maintain a lean-to in the Adirondack Park. Volunteers donate hours toward maintaining a lean-to, replacing registers, and reporting problems. Major construction is not required.

Join the Trail Steward Program and adopt your favorite trail. Stewards clear blowdown, maintain drainages, and do other basic trail maintenance tasks. Their reports help determine where more intensive trail projects are required.

Educate the public about the importance of fire towers in protecting the forest and help recreators have a safe, enjoyable outdoor experience. Encourage Leave No Trace principles and inform visitors of DEC regulations.

Work with trained ADK trail crew leaders and other volunteers on trail maintenance and reconstruction projects throughout the Adirondacks. ADK provides leadership, group camping gear, tools, transportation from base camp, and food for multi-day projects.

Volunteers are needed each Thursday to help organize and pack food at St. Clement’s Parish Center. This role involves preparing food packages for children in need, ensuring they have enough to eat over the weekend.

Preserve Stewards make long-term commitments to a preserve, using their time, energy, and love of the outdoors to check and maintain boundaries, trails, trail registers, and control invasive species. Trail Hosts greet visitors and provide information about the trail and the LGLC.

Help to keep our preserves in good order! Volunteers assist in litter cleanups, boundary postings, trail maintenance, invasive plant inventory and removal, and other activities. The work projects are normally one-half to one-full day in length, on weekdays and weekends, and occur periodically as-needed throughout the year.
